The ball doesnt get played direct and quick enough to exploit the space in behind so he would be no better than Kyogo whatsoever.

And Rodgers also confirmed that Daizen Maeda will be in the squad for the game against Nick Montgomery's men.

"How's the squad?" he said. "Yeah, all good. Good couple of days training. Injury wise, nobody back from injury but in terms of Daizen Maeda he's back which is great news, he's fit and healthy.

Think the Celtic admin was hoping for a better reaction to the “he’s back”! tweet.

I for one can’t wait to see him hit an early cross and it pings of some poor buggers held in row z behind the goal. For someone who’s supposedly rapid too he’s hardly ever does any fulls backs for pace.

It will be huge to have him back tomorrow. IMHO we have missed the danger he poses in behind more then anything else in the last 3 games. His ability in behind really opens up the game for us in general as well.

His return from injury in December coincided with our upturn in form before the winter break.

He's not the most talented player but his energy and workrate rubs off on those around him.

    Has to start 2mo

Possibly, but maybe a front three of Abada Idah and Kuhn to run them ragged. Then unleash Kyogo and Maeda.

Not sure for tonight but I wouldn’t mind seeing Kyogo and Maeda play up too together like they did away at Livingston. Even possibly play Idah between them to drop off and link play.

See if we actually had decent full backs I think that would be an effective way of playing having them get high and wide and let Kyogo and Maeda come in with Idah as a focal point that went short and the other two going in behind.

Not a massive fan of his but I can admit we miss him being in the side.

However he isn't going to help the clinical issue we have at the moment.

Wait until he manages to score with his * while facing the wrong way after missing a clear cut chance. I'll take it. A goals a goal :56:

I'd take a 1 yard tap in aye as long as we get 3 points!

Hes the only player we've got that can score by accident. We need goals :56:

Maeda needs to start being more direct and getting to the byline. That is his main, and only strength. Seems to be loved for his workrate, but we don't need that in domestic games. We need good decisions and an end product. My image of Maeda is someone who can skip past a defender and fire in a low cross at pace into the box. Too often he turns back and inside or just drifts in and out of things. Like everyone else in the side, we need him to be better than he has been.

I think ultimately the issue is he isn't a winger.

He's a hard working centre forward for me who would grab you 10-15 goals from there a season. Kinda like a Shinji Okazaki to use one of his fellow countrymen as an example.

He has very little technical ability, poor end product and can't cross a ball anywhere near consistently enough. His man strength as a winger in our side is his movement and helping out our slow full back.

Ultimately I'd be wanting more but sadly right now we really need him even to set a tone from the work rate perspective.

10/15 goals isn't anywhere near good enough for a striker here. With Maeda it's often a trade off with his work rate against his creativity. His lack of technical ability is totally exposed at times.
