What a hunger he has to win the ball back when we are out of possession. Such an honest, hard grafting player.

I think that Maeda has the potential to end Taverniers Rangers career. I dont think Tavernier has the positional discipline or the pace to track Maedas runs in behind and i think Maeda is capable of exposing him to an extent that they wont want to start him vs Maeda again.
Its a bold statement, but id start him against him with Jota on the opposite wing and if Jota can occupy Barasic so he limits Barasic getting forward, i can see Maeda giving Tavernier a torrid time.
I think you could see glimpses in the first half of the other game, but that Forrest was so poor in possession that it gave them more joy than they might have otherwise have had.

Maeda will rape tavernier that bad that tav will be feigning injury by half time

Yeah and the fact him and jota can swap wings and any stage is great too, even for him to get at barisic for a bit while jota toys with tav then

I think it is pretty clear that which ever side they start on...if Maeda and Jota are feeling sexy, they two will be key to ruining huns.

That lot rely on their fullbacks to create everything more than they rely on anyone else...their wingers and striker are their to finish the set ups their fullbacks start.

So if Maeda and Jota are in fighting mood on the day...Tavpen will not want the ball near him if Maeda is within arms reach due to his relentless energy and aggressive press. Barisic either way just won't want to be dealing with either player and their directness. Be it Jota and his close control and skill or Maeda and his raw pace.

Daizen Maeda used to play for a J-League club Matsumoto Yamaga. He was famous for his speed. Last season, 18 year old footballer who is also famous for his speed (he is a great sprinter) was showing his quality, scoring 11 goals for Matsumoto Yamaga (= the J-League club Maeda used to play for). The Matsumoto Yamaga fans were saying "This boy is like Maeda!". Usually, Japanese teenaged footballers are not very physically ready for the top teams and it is rare to score more than 10 goals within a season. Now, he is playing for U20 national team too. It might sound a bit "off topic". Yes, I know it. But, if Kyogo, Maeda, Hatate, etc keep showing their high quality, bigger clubs might buy them. I was just imagining the 19 year old Japanese forward (his name is Ayumu Yokoyama) helping Celtic after Maeda or Kyogo leaving. Ah, I think I should have written this in "Player Suggestion" thread, sorry!. This is the highlights with his 11 goals of last season.

Pace in the wide areas is key.

That kid’s technique is unreal. Japanese football is going to be a powerhouse inside the next decade.

Just as well he scored in a few of those clips because there was a couple where his team mate is a lot better placed than he is, but he decided to shoot.

Be interesting to see how he develops.

Today, a Japanese media was reporting on Maeda. Here is a summary on what Maeda said in the interview of the article.

Celtic coach Harry Kewell told Maeda "You have great pace / speed and skills too, why not take on more often when it's 1v1 situation?". And recently, he has been watching Mitoma's dribbling videos" (Mitoma is playing in EPL and it looks like he is already one of the best 1v1 dribbling monsters in EPL). He says he is watching his own Celtic games with Harry Kewell too to talk about his dribbling and potential 1v1 scenes in the games.

So, he's been watching these Mitoma videos recently.

Actually, there are many videos on Mitoma's dribbling on Youtube now.

He's going to be one of the key men on Sunday. Fancy him to score against them again.

He's the one Tavernier and Goldson struggle with because of his pace imo

And his pressing. I think if you put them two under pressure when they're on the ball and begin to rush them, the fold like a deck chair.

Maeda and Jota are vital to our success in general but will certainly be key to our game plan for the final.

Maeda pressing ability is amazing and if Jota is occupying Barisic then hopefully all huns can do is try and lump ball aimlessly with no direction rather than use their fullbacks in more advanced positions who they rely on to create chances

I love Maeda's pressing. Actually, Japan's first goal against Spain in FIFA World Cup came from his pressing as you can see in the video below. I assume the reason why Moriyasu (the manager of Japanese national team) chose Maeda over Kyogo was the defensive role. Maeda's pressing and defensive role as central forward were famous among Japanese football fans.

Furuhashi is great at pressing. But then, he says he needs to be better at it- he probably wants to be like Maeda. That is almost scary. I think both of them should play for the Japanese NT.

This guy is the tone setter at every minute, if we drop slightly he’ll still be chasing absolutely everything like a rabid dog and his team mates will feed off it.

    What an attitude he’s got.
