Problem is he may have asked not to go but if he refused to play a competitive match he could have been punished. Celtics fault there. I think if you are a manager and you think no I will put a cb in as a right back to punish another rb then that is just stupid. He was fine tonight.

I think one of the biggest things you need in a team is trust mate, I can see why Rodgers done it.

He was ok tonight but he did * it for the goal. Much better with Forrest helping him out the 2nd half though, Rodgers just treated him like a right footed Tierney the first half. Which he ain’t.

Recovery pace is phenomenal. Still lacks the technical ability to be a Rodgers full back or wing back though IMO.

Not at all, Rodgers signed him. He’s a member of our squad and he’s came in and done a job. End of story really.

I would argue he's better than Lustig as well. Lustig is far too slow. It's not easy for him to run up and down the pitch. At this stage of his career I'd rather use him as a centre-half (especially whenever we play with 3 at the back).

Hope him and Brendan can settle their differences. Not just saying that because of his performance tonight. I think he has done well any time he has been called upon, bar Bayern and Barca where he wasn’t the only poor one.

Would be happy with him as first choice right back. Definitely makes a huge difference to our play having another quick attacking full back.

Think it would be difficult to get a much better full back than him for the £1 million or so we paid for him.

Would rather we spent bigger on a quality centre half rather than go for another right back.

Still can’t believe Ralston was ahead of him :giggle1:
    And Lustig for that matter.

Wouldn’t play Lustig at right back again unless we had injuries, even then I wouldn’t want that unless we were really stuck.

Think Lustig would be better suited to a centre half in a back three where he isn’t having to do as much running than he would at full back. Plus he hasn’t been getting on the overlap very much anymore so I think it’s a complete waste having him there, doesn’t offer much in an attacking sense. But could do well defensively as a centre half staying back.

At least then we wouldn’t see him getting up to the half way line down the right hand side and then turning and passing it backwards.

    I disagree.

He's been here 2 years and prior to tonight was in the wilderness. Even when we have had injuries at RB or suspensions, he's been nowhere to be found.

    It can't be denied, surely.

For a pace merchant he has always looked like he has a good shot and cross on him, usually fast players like him are poor on the ball or strike a ball like they're wearing a blind fold but he always gets good whip into a cross and good power into a shot.

His end product leaves a lot to be desired :56:

Edit: Set KT up second half actually but overhits a lot of ball's..

This was the article about it:

Gamboa decided to play for his country at the Gold Cup in the summer instead of representing Celtic in the Champions League qualifiers.

And, after helping to clinch Costa Rica’s qualifying place at the World Cup in Russia next year after a draw against Honduras, the full back admitted his career at Parkhead has stagnated.

He said: “I decided to represent my country at the Gold Cup tournament this summer.

“Unfortunately, I think this has had consequences for me at Celtic.

“Not doing pre-season with Celtic has proved to be very expensive for me.

“There are decisions made by other people who pick the team and it is not in my hands.

“Apparently, playing at the Gold Cup was not taken in a good way at my club and I have had to wait to play again.”

Have a day off ffs. What evidence do you have that he hasn't been good enough? Barca and Bayern away, every player on pitch both games where absolutely gash, every time Gamboa has played in the league or otherwise bar those two games he has performed well and done exactly what we needed, can't hold vendettas against players over a couple of games against opposition that bullied us all over park. For whatever reason Rodgers doesn't fancy him and it's clearly not ability because he was great tonight and has performed well in league when asked upon, hes made far less mistakes than say lustig has over 2 years yet here we are the poor * doesn't get a game l.

I think his covering runs across to left back when we're being countered is one of the most under rated attributes in the squad. Hes very switched on in that regard.

Rodgers use of Gamboa * baffles me.

“Yer sitting out against run of the mill SPL teams, but see in the big games that define our season & games against Barca, PSG & Bayern... I’m goany pump ye right in the starting 11”

He wasn’t great tonight, he done a job but letting the left back run off him for the opening goal was criminal.

I do like him, he has his uses and I think should be used more but lets not ignore things because we all think RB needs stregthened

He's definitely good enough to have played more than he has. Kind of a moot point though since we have won back to back trebles with him barely playing so it's hard to complain.
