That Boycott '99 centuries' wind-up is an absolute classic! I remember listening to that at the time through the radio, thanks for sharing that, so glad that moment was recorded and preserved. Aggers played that perfectly. :56:

The India series all over, 5th test inside of 3 days.

England too often had opportunities in the series, after winning the first game, but every single time handed the initiative back to India and losing the last 4 tests, a couple of them pretty comprehensively. It's not that bazball doesnt work - it can, but it can't be an all the time thing. Have to play the situation and when bazball has worked it has been in the second innings - the problem being they are trying to play it in the first inning of games and England are just not scoring enough first inning runs, purely through lack of disciplined batting, which in turn is giving their bowlers significantly less recovery time between stints in the field.

Cred to India who have been much better side, even without the likes of Kohli, Shami and Rahul throughout, and they deserved the 4-1 series win. The batting was night and day with what England were doing, the sheer gulf in class between the spinners also. England's were tryers, India's are pedigree.

Also interestinfg series going on in NZ, with Australia winning the first test, but NZ needing just 6 wickets to level the series, while Australia needing another 200+ to win.

The T20 been throwing up the occasional shock, none less that the USA winning their first 2 games in really entertaining games, first against Canada, then today giantslaying Pakistan, and now sitting top of Group A, but still have to play India and Ireland.

Scotland were well placed to beat England before that match got washed out, and now have just beaten Namibia to go top of Group B. They still have to play Oman and Australia though.

Good result for Ireland that USA win. If Ireland beat USA and Canada now there’s a chance that could be enough to qualify I think? If India win all of their games.

Canada just knocked Ireland, who have now lost both of their games. It was also Canada's first ever WC win.

How everybody stopped from laughing as it unfolded is beyond me, and its Agnews ability to keep things understated that makes it comedy gold. Like taz I remember hearing it live, and I just cried when the punchline came.

Some more big results this weekend.

Australia thumped England yesterday, which leaves the defending champions teetering, and Scotland's emphatic win today over Oman has only further deepened the hole that England are in, as not only do have have to win both of their remaining 2 games (v Oman & Namibia) they have to do it by big, big margins. Scotland top the Group on 5 points but still have Australia to play in that group.

Pakistan looked well comfortable to beat India, who they bowled out for 119. At one point Pakistan were 2/79 and cruising, to end up losing the game by 6 runs! That USA v Ireland game is shaping up as tournament defining. After losing their first 2 games, Ireland are on the brink of being knocked out, while a USA win would just about make certain of them progressing out of that Group.

Australia won, top the Group, England also through, was touch and go with the weather but they got their game in against Namibia. Scotland narrowly miss out, knocked out, but there are much bigger teams have have also been eliminated, including Pakistan and New Zealand.

Super 8 taking shape, with Sth Africa, West Indies, India, Australia, England, Afghanistan and USA through, with just the one last spot to be determined. Bangladesh will book their place with a win v Nepal tonight. Netherlands need to beat Sri Lanka and hope that Nepal beat Bangladesh for it to go down to R/R.

India won the T20 World Cup.

Or rather South Africa have found yet another way to choke.

SA needed 30 runs from the last 30 balls, with 2 set guys at the wicket and cruising, before Klaasen got out. Even then it was 26 from 24 and it seemed like the occasion got to them, got spooked by Bumrah and seriously choked because of that.

The Proteas are without doubt the biggest chokers in world cricket, finding more and more absurd ways to cluch defeat from the jaws of victory. In this WC thgey finally seemed to have found a way of winning from whatever situation, and yet come the final and it's happened again. It's happened so often now, it is close to being a part of their tradition.

On another note, do think that the ICC's clear favouritism for India - and in particular Indian TV market - needs to be questioned. I get that it injects a LOT of the money into the game, but how can it be that ALL of their fixtures were scheduled for times that were best suited for India, at the Semi-Final stage, they were made certain before the WC that if they qualified for the SF's, that they would be playing in Guyana at the daytime time slot and every other team would just have to work around them, and the same today at the Final.

Anyhow, congrats to India, I guess. They have all the weopons, they have the favouritism, they have Bumrah, and now they have the World Cup.

    RIP Graham Thorpe. :(

Was one of the few English batsman that seemed to be a real thorn in the side for Australia back in the 90's and early 00's. Was just 55.

That is one good thing about the Hundred and T20's - while there are blowouts, they do also lend themselves to a lot of squeaky * finishes as well!

Joe Root hit his 34th test century - the most by anyone for England. Still a long way shy of Tendulkar's overall record of 51.

And Root's 2nd in this current test - just the 11th time the feat of a century in each inning in the same game has been achieved by an English batsman.
