Which one and why? Glasgow because you don't think it's glamourous?

I'll have Glasgow over any one of those cities.

No because it's tiny in comparison to most of them and good for you choosing Glasgow over any of those cities :50:

Glasgow's probably more globally known and respected than Athens and Atlanta tbh.

In terms of what? Land mass or population?

Either way it's big enough and would cope perfectly well.

Athens has no relevance in this millenium and Atlanta is barely in the top 10 biggest cities in America, i'm sure back then people in the States wondered why it was chosen over LA, Chicago, New York, Washington, Miami, San Francisco or any of the huge cities in Texas.

Glasgow is at least as known worldwide than the aforementioned places.

Both really don't think it's big enough or have enough money to host it either

And irrelevant. London and Paris don't get by on their medieval history, they are important because they are hugely important financial centres. What is the current Athens bringing to the world table that Glasgow, or indeed Edinburgh, cannot?

I'm sure Glasgow is far more important in the modern world than Athens, yes. Apart from being stereotypically dour and pessimistic, could you give one logical reason for why the Greek capital is more important in the world order than Glasgow? Apart from you presumably seeing a few BBC2 documentaries on the Parthenon, what can you possibly tell me about the head of a bankrupt state in the neglected South-East of Europe?

I assume you made a typo there. And size isn't everything :86:
Name me one thing, without googling, that is culturally significant (on a global scale, mind) about Atlanta?

    I'll wait.

Who or what dictates that Glasgow doesn't have enough money to host it?

We're in the middle of austerity cuts across the board yet London had 30 billion to spend in 2012. It's more complex than there is or isn't enough money - they used the games to re-generate an area of London that was always going to be re-generated but just sped it up massively. In the exact same way Dalmarnock and the area around Parkhead has been on a smaller scale.

Athens also has a population and GDP (even now) over double the size Glasgow. Plus it has Exarcheia :icon_mrgreen:

Athens as a city is a level above Glasgow. It has more of most thing than Glasgow does but Glasgow really shouldn't be aiming to better capital cities of major European nations. In international terms it is relatively small and remote. It is more like Naples than Rome, Porto rather than Lisbon or Thessaloniki rather than Athens.

That doesn't have to be a bad thing.

And of course it could host the Olympics if enough money was pumped into it. I'm sure Manchester and Birmingham have bid for the games before.
