If McCowan started every game he'd do better than Hatate, Bernardo and Engels

One thing I'm pretty sure of, Ange system wouldn't have been dominated like we were today. We really struggled to gwt the ball through the midfield and in Ange system, the centre mid went really wide tonreiceve the ball and it either dragged the opposition midfield around or it allowed us to get up the park. We really need to combat how Rangers man mark our midfield.

Every couple of years we go to Ibrox and play as if we've just met before kick off, it happens but this time we had the safety net of 14 points. Rangers played well and made us look rubbish but does anyone think it was done with a message being sent to DD that we do need strengthened in January

They're both great when plan A works but what about when managers and teams work out how to play against them?

Press, man mark Mcgregor and let us build up from the back, let our weakest centre back have the ball and constantly play us into trouble.
Don't tactically change anything ever and repeat.

That's a bold statement, but I feel sort of the same. His passing is crisp, he is good on the half turn, has vision, incredible desire and a great work rate. I love the guy. Him and Bernardo are a couple of my favourites tbh.

I would too; but to be fair to Rodgers, some of our football up to the last international break was some of the best I've seen here. That break really killed our mojo somehow, especially Maeda, Hatate and Engels have been poor since then.

I agree with the first part, and I’d even go further.

Now I’m not expecting it to be like the Murty or Caixinha days where we regularly pumped them by 4 or 5 goals.

But for a while now I think we’ve pretty consistently underperformed against the huns. How many times has there been one goal in it of late? 3-0 win against them in September was fantastic but that’s been more rare than I think it should be. And it wasn’t even close to the same type of 3-0 that yesterday was where it could easily have been 6.

Given the, apparent, gulf between both sides and the money we’ve spent on players etc. We should be asserting our dominance in these matches much more often than we have done the last couple of years. Not conceding 6 in two games.

That game yesterday was comfortably the most dominant game between us that there’s been in some time, which makes it even more of a shambles. Said it in another thread but that was like a reverse of those derbies from 7/8 years ago where it we were verging on putting 7 past them.

It seems if we aren’t completely pumping the huns then it’s no good enough now. * me. Regularly underperforming against them? They’ve won 3 out of the last 18 fixtures against us.

Again, you just constantly seem to miss the point. Or not read it. I quite clearly stated I’m not expecting us to batter them every game. That would be silly.

But we regularly make hard work of it against a team who I’m told are nowhere near as good as us. Well…we should * show the difference in quality then.

I think back to last season at Celtic Park when we were 2-0 up against 10 men. Cruising. We all thought we’d go on to get another couple of goals. Next thing you know they score and we’re panicking for the last 10 mins of the game.

The following derby at CP we were 2-1 up against 10 men for 45 mins and couldn’t score another.

Sort of games we should be wiping the floor with them in.

Responsibility of the captaincy should be taken from CalMac, well, for a few games at least.
I think the pressure of that responsibility is starting to affect his game.

It’s a derby game against our biggest rivals. We have totally dominated them in the fixture for a number of years now. I know who’s missing the point.

He always does. He's been magnificent for us, but his drops in form are more frequent these days which we've not been used to.

He will 100% get back to his best and boss games again. Still mindful of his age though, hope we're thinking ahead.

It would have been that Hatate is a ridiculously overrated, average player.. but it seems a few more folk have started to come to terms with that after the last few games

Our biggest rivals who, according to many, are rotten. A team who have barely won a trophy in years.

Christ some people have such low standards.:giggle1:

It’s not thought, is it. Styles makes games. Rangers, are the absolute anti football. They don’t want to get the ball down and play, they’re set up to stop what we do.

There’s a reason why we have been outperformed by them in Europe over a number of years and we’ve outperformed them domestically.

People think it’s a case of, well let’s play a different style then. Without actually understanding that it’s not as simple as that. There’s a reason they don’t do particularly well domestically and we do, because we know how to dominate games and teams aren’t able to cope. Similarly, that means they’ll perform better against better teams, who control the ball, like ourselves, because they are set up for the counter and to negate the opposition.

Let’s be honest, we could have battered them 7-0 yesterday and you would still have been shouting that we never made it 10.

This current team and Ange’s team are slightly overrated.

The system is great for beating inferior teams who sit off us and try not to get hammered.

But when it comes to Europe/playing Huns or even trips to Killie, we look average most of the time.

Most recent examples being yesterday, the Cup Final, Dinamo Zagreb and Club Brugge. Rodgers always talks about ‘playing the game our way’ yet we’ve failed to do that in all of these important / pressurised games.

The theme for these games is us struggling to build from the back while being pressed as well as needlessly losing the ball under no pressure at times too. Our midfield and key players like McGregor go missing - and let’s be honest McGregor and Hatate are useless off the ball.

Do you know what both Rodgers and Ange’s team lack that makes these games a struggle? Players who can handle themselves, win their 1-1 battles and a plan B for when plan A isn’t working.

He's been captain for 4 seasons. I'm pretty sure he's well adapted to it by now.

Plus it's an awful thing to do in terms of optics, makes the outside world think we're in disarray.
