They should change the round footballs to square ones, that would separate the men from the boys.

I dont think Rodgers can be compared given the standard of league was indisputably weaker across the board.

The standard of the league just now is the worst it’s been in years, the Huns are better now than when Rodgers was here but the quality of the rest of the league just now is * poor

The standard of football noticeably declined. As did our attendances.
We had the strongest centre back pairing we had had in those times and we were defensively abysmal in europe, twice getting knocked out of the CL qualifiers in the same campaign to inferior opposition. Some of our signings in that time were woeful as well. Tonev, Berget..

People want to remember Ronny with affection because he was a nice guy and “got it”. But sentiment has little bearing in elite level sport. We threw away a huge opportunity to capitalise from a position of strength and increase the gap on everyone else and sacking him was necessitated to stop the rot. A sign of this typified by defeat to them at Hampden.
Lets not be fooled, sacking Deila was 100% the correct decision and what has transpired since then at both celtic and in Deilas career has proven this right.

Rangers were no match for us in Rodgers time until Gerrards appointment. For the majority of that time our closest rivals were Aberdeen.

The rest of the league are now weaker, but since the time Gerrard took over Rangers, they pose far more of a challenge than Aberdeen did.

Don’t disagree with that, just think the league as a whole is a really poor standard atm, doesn’t mean Ange isn’t doing a great job obviously

My point is that I dont think Rodgers was challenged domestically with the strength of team as the others. Simply because there was another rival at the strength Ange and the others have faced.

It’s is really really bad this year.

To be honest this has benefitted the Huns hugely. A strong league would’ve seen a 20 point gap by now.

We would still win games but they would dropped way more points.

Poor managerial appointments and recruitment by Hibs and Aberdeen, who have been relatively well backed financially hasnt helped. These have been away fixtures that Rangers have struggled in recent years and they have come through them this season. Obviously Goodwins side shat the bed.

Agree mate. It would be an interesting subject for someone to study in detail to try and explain why the rest are so poor this year and why there have been so many poor appointments.

I hope it picks up again from next season.

Also Ange is probably the only one of those managers other than O’Neillwho won their first title against such a challenging scenario in terms of rebuild needed and challenge of opposition.

Even then O’Neill inherited Larsson and Moravcik, Ange got McGregor and not much else but got the best of Taylor, Ralston and others while rejuvenating Rogic.

Hearts have done very well in their recruitment but still have a way to go to put up a fight against the top 2. They are the example of what can be achieved when it all comes together.

Hibs missed a big chance to appoint Jon dahl Tomasson who is doing a good job with Blackburn. Lee Johnson was never the right appointment and they have brought in too many mediocre players.

Aberdeen on the other hand, seem to have brought in some above average players in Duk, Miovski, Ramadani, but defensively poor and Goodwin seemed to get the approach wrong. Rangers comeback win seemed to start the slide.

While you’re not wrong, GG does make a lot of unnecessary fouls and gets caught offside constantly.

We say the league is the worst standard in years every season, I don't really see how it's worse than in the Rodgers era.

After the McGinn and AEK Athens debacle it was always a matter of when not if he was leaving looking back.

The first decent offer he got he was gone and it just happened to be Leceister half way through the season. Not many jobs come up during the summer. Is Rogers a *? Absolutely but feel Lawwell got a completely free pass for that one

I remember people here saying that they had heard Rodgers was working his ticket, after his second season. Think he thought he'd get the Arsenal job as it was available that summer, if I recall correctly. Still think Rodgers is a * for leaving when he did as Leicester were happy to wait until the end of the season.

Rodgers was sticking two fingers up at Lawwell by leaving when he did, just means he burned his bridges with the fans by doing so.
