And he tried to gut the club while doing so

It’s not about the controversial opinion, it’s about the misrepresentation (in my opinion) of why Rodgers is disliked by Celtic supporters.

    The two issues are:

    1. Rodgers leaving Celtic.
    2. The timing of Rodgers leaving Celtic.

Number one can be justified by his relationship with Lawwell, and that’s why he’s not disliked because of that.

Number two is not justified by his relationship with Lawwell and it’s the main reason he is disliked.

People try and tie the two together to defend Rodgers. i.e. they use a defence of number 1 to justify number 2, which is obviously wrong. It’s a common tactic people use in debates, similar to a strawman.

    Completely agree with this.

He did a decent job for us but he's majorly overrated by a lot of the support. There's a reason he's 28 and only had about two and a half really good seasons...and he's now moving to MLS. Found it weird the number of people saying how surprised they are that nobody else from a major European league was in for him. It's because he's not that good.

The fouls did my nut in. Felt like most of the time he came on, all he did was foul players and get called offside.

Folk would go on about how Giakoumakis was the best player suited to playing against Livi and the most memorable things he did against them was miss penalties and sitters.

Aye it was a nonsense argument. Livingston want teams to knock long balls up towards the forward and put crosses into their box. Folk wanted Giakoumakis to play because he is big and strong and is best suited to battle with the centre halfs. That’s fine if you want the game to be a battle. We don’t, we just need to get it down and play football. Kyogo is far more suited to play against them.

There is undoubtedly games where Giakoumakis is better suited though in my opinion. Against the huns I’m playing Giakoumakis, at Tynecastle likewise.

Inspired by comments in his thread, I still don't think Aaron Mooy is what we need in midfield going forward :fear:

Referees decide what constitutes a foul, and we all know what the script with Scottish referees is.

Rodgers, O’Neil and Strachan all have rightful claims. Ange only been here 18 months

Strachans domestic cup record wasn’t the best so i think Ange can hopefully beat him in that regard but Strachan taking us to the last 16 back to back was incredible when you look at the squad we had back then.

What makes me think Ange is the best of them is because he started from scratch building his own squad. I don't think that any of them would be able to do that. especially not Rodgers.

He could be, but too early to tell. For me it’s MON.

Ange still has time to overtake MON and for me the only way that happens if he gets to a similar European Final or consistently performing holding our own in the champions league.

Agreed. But it definitely is controversial.

MON was outstanding as a leader, made some incredible signings and knew exactly how to build a first XI. His team will always be my favourite Celtic side ever. However, he inherited some amazing players, and tactically wasn't as astute as Ange. Also, for the time he spent some crazy amounts of cash, which allowing for inflation no recent Celtic manager could hope to spend. He also had a big failing as a manager and that was his tunnel vision with his first XI. We never had that strong a bench under MON, and I always felt subs weakened the team. Still, what he achieved was remarkable and I love him. Not trying to downplay him or his side at all.

Strachan had amazing success in Europe (and relative success domestically), but the football was often turgid. I appreciate what he did and he gave us some of the greatest CL nights, but I couldn't rightly have him up there as our best manager of the last 30 years.

Deila is obviously not in the question, and while Lennon did have some major success he's * his legacy forever.

Rodgers - yes, the treble treble was insane, but there are so many asterisks next to his time here. He completely wiped out the squad, treated some players terribly, has basically * KT for life the way he made him play through the pain, and obviously the way he left will not be forgotten. Also, it can't be ignored that he had very very little in the way of real competition domestically while he was here. We actually played some pretty honking football for a lot of his time here, but we could afford to because there wasn't any real challenge. For me he's not in the question of best manager.

Ange has his flaws, obviously, and our failure in Europe so far can't be ignored. But as an all-round manager, tactician, coach and human being he is at the top for me. Doesn't even matter that he's not had major success yet - though last season is one of the greatest in our recent history, without doubt. Folk will laugh but I genuinely feel like he's revolutionised football for me. I don't watch much outwith Celtic these days so for all I know his tactics are fairly common across the big clubs, but some of the things he's introduced to the game here have looked genuinely groundbreaking to me. This is, for me, the most enjoyable football I've ever seen Celtic play. Add on top of that the fact he took us over at one of the lowest points in our recent history, and utterly transformed the club from top to bottom while still posting an overall profit, it's just remarkable. I love him.

    This one is very controversial..

Even though he is good, and deserves to start (most of the times) and has huge potential, i find Jota very overrated on here.

Judging by his thread it's like we are talking about prime Diego Maradona sometimes :56:

Staff they brought with them isn’t but trying to bring a lot of the underlying structure that was in place at the club with him was.
