His own words at the time were that if there were no improvement by November, he'd resign himself.

November came and went, Lenny's still sitting pitch side in the bucket seats.

By never say die attitude, I think you mean he wanted his money and couldn't care less about the club.

That same attitude sees him now 50 years old, not old in the managerial game, and without a club for 7 months. Mainly because no board with any ambition or sense of professionalism will go near him.

I don't blame him for leaving. I do blame him for leaving when he did though. He did the dirty on us by not waiting until the summer.

Nah we couldn’t have. He could’ve just resigned. Even if we could mate, we all saw last season what happens when you keep unhappy people in a job they want to leave.

Rodgers was making it fairly clear he wasn't staying at Celtic long before he walked. He was really agitated at the beginning of that season and our results did seem to indicate a bad feeling around the club.

Anyway, I wonder what would have happened if Rodgers had seen out the season. I don't mean in terms of results as I'm certain we'd have still won the treble anyway. I mean, what would have happened with the managerial role if Rodgers left in May.

There's a belief Lennon only got the job because he was the interim coach whereas if Rodgers stayed on until the end of the season Lennon wouldn't have been considered at all.

    I'm not sure about that.

I think Lennon was getting the job regardless of any circumstances. It may have been "easier" to appoint him after a short spell as interim coach but his remit was so low - basically don't oversee a massive capitulation with the best squad in the country in the next 3 months and the job's yours - that he'd have been approached in the summer anyway.

It matches with the general lack of ambition or forward-thinking at the club.

Ambitious manager wanted to find ambitious club and owners.
The owners of this club are the most unambitious ‘big club’ on the planet. Even the Huns make us look * in our set up.
But it’s all about the numbers and profit profit profit.
There are literal lower league teams with better back room set ups than us. A ‘massive club’. Only in some of the supporters imaginations.
If you’d work for our club, for our owners and be constantly held back and be happy with that, that says more about why we are in the state we are in.

Rodgers got offered a good job at a wealthy club with an owner who wants to go places. Complete opposite to us.

    LOL indeed.

A club that were happy to wait until the end of the season for him while we were chasing a treble, yet he choose to * off and take a large chunk of backroom staff with him, leaving us * despite claiming he was in his dream job. Making excuses for how much of a * he was for doing that is embarrassing. Claiming it's 'baffling' for blaming him for leaving how and when he did is stupid.

I was firmly in this camp in terms of holding a similar belief, but see now - possibly - looking back on it, yes as a Celtic supporter having our manager (a supposed self-confessed Tim) * off mid season was a total kick in the baws, and aye taking HIS backroom staff too also, but…

I don’t really think it was HIS fault that Leicester came-a-calling when they did, but also a decent team with a great reputation at board level offering him a chance back to the riches of England as opposed to THE biggest team in Scotland with what is widely regarded as an infuriatingly under-supportive board not pushing the extra yards out to get him the players that he wanted (not even players out of the stratosphere, but definitely achievable in terms of an extra cupla million when you think of the revenue his success brought in to the club at the time) - aye, now I can definitely understand why he jumped when he jumped.

In regards him taking the backroom staff that he did, well, as much as it seemed at the time like a snakey move, really they were HIS backroom staff that he brought in (even if they were under contract at the club) so we managed a football record fee (i believe) in compensation for club staff.

The club got the best part of £10m for those guys and swindled the money (not personally stolen, but certainly nowhere reinvested back into staff).

This board has always been reactionary instead of progressionary. We did it with Martin O’Neill - he had a squad that took us to a * Uefa Cup Final, the season after that what did he get for his thanks? David Fernandez at £1m ffs!

Same with Rodgers - what did he get after his first season in transfers - Marvin Commper, Lewis Morgan, Johnny Hayes and Jack Hendry…

This board (despite owning the rights to applause for what they did to achieve untainted titles and trebles) have single handedly under-cut and backstabbed manager after manager at every opportunity.

They are charlatans who need chased out immediately….

No it's not his fault that Leicester wanted him, that's not what I'm saying. I'm not defending the board either, I'm as unhappy with them as most fans are.

Also, why is Scotia's signature showing under your post? :giggle1:

the simple fact of the matter is when leicester came to us and asked if they could take our top quality manager from us with a treble treble on the line the board rolled over like a hooker and said how much?
they could of stopped it dead in its tracks and said no irrespective of what rodgers wanted .even at the point the board told rodgers they have let leicester talk to him is he really gonna take that snub well, sure he could of stayed on and * them off but why would he.
this board would sell any good thing going at celtic

    Well said!

I really do * detest this board.
But alas, while the vast majority of fans enjoy letting off steam online and in bars, they still willingly hand over the one thing the board crave - our money.

While we, collectively as a support, keep doing that, this board will continue to short change the fans and * over any manager, believing that this football club is theirs - it is not. It is ours!

Lennon left the first time, citing that he took us as far as he could and the ambition wasn't the same with the board.
Keane knocked us back because the board was too enforcing and dictating.
Deila only got so far, lack of support during an easy run meant his approach only went so far. Same is happening with Ange.
Rodgers * off because of the board.
Lennon came back, in spite of the board, but using the boards cheapness to his advantage and happily let Lawwell ride him in to fan hatred. Sold his * soul.
Howe knocked us back after "due diligence" due to the poor and * nature of this board.

How many times does this need to happen?

Let’s be honest here the board would have been pushing him to take the Leicester job knowing they were getting 9 million compo. Would have been rubbing their greasy sleekit hands

Canny believe people genuinely think Rodgers left early because of anything other than he’s a selfish *.

Rodgers leaving had more to do with the job having gone stale and him looking for a new challenge than the shambles of a transfer window. Rodgers will do the same to Leicester or anyone else if a bigger job comes along.

You could see it from the end of the 2nd treble really that his heart wasn’t in it the way it was when he first came in. The guy is egotistical so coming in getting to CL and winning the treble and the adulation for him would have kept him going for a while but ultimately it became stale.

You weren’t seeing the same development in guys you saw at the start. Still replacing him with Lennon was a complete joke long term, particularly given how badly he struggled during the completion of the season.
