by money in the games i meant wage wise, but still * *.

something interesting i was talking to some Americans who were football fans and they said the only way the MLS will fix itself is if it keeps a lot of their best players in the league, get rid of the salary cap, stop going for 39 year old former superstars, and scraps the draft transfer system

    your opinion?

well keeping the best players in the league yes.. other * not at all. i used to think that too but another member on here (cough other american in the thread with the giant cat picture) told me that the old superstars are there to bring more fans to the mls.

and the salary cap keeps clubs even and any team can win which is the american ideal..

    fair enough.

i agree about scrapping the draft system as the way the guys i spoke to put i was so many players change about in the drafts that the fans don't really get enough time to get attached to players in their team and build around that aspect

i mean who thought we would love eventually petrov after his first season

    it takes time

On US spending a lot of cash on wages -- keep in mind, theres almost no action with transfer fees. Red Sox caught some stick for putting $50m for a Japanese starlet, next highest transfer fee was like $15m for Ichiro.

Think the problem with MLS is they all play like Rangers imo. And when they do attack it's like watching England... lobbing balls into the box for 90 minutes praying Crouch finds his head from his *.
FFS, there ain't * to play for in MLS... theres no regulation to be scared of and half the league goes to "playoffs". Have a go at the defenders once in awhile. Salary won't change much, the * players will just get paid a bit more and the good ones that knows what good for 'em will still go to Europe. What they need is better coaching, better infrastructure, and more financial stability. Last I knew only 2 clubs are making a profit. =x

I think the problem is that fans don't care. If there is hardly a fan base than you can't dream of making a profit, let alone a competitive league. Most Americans don't care to watch football because they don't think there is enough scoring or it's too slow. The MLS is dead to be honest and no matter how many Beckhams come to the league, no one will care.

I live in the US and find it hard to watch a game tbh. I'm debating going to some Seattle games next year, but if they play like most of the teams do... why bother. I think if the league had more attractive football, they'd hold peoples interest.
But you're not going to convince a country of sports fans who already have favorite teams to care when they wait 90 minutes to see goals like these.

Bringing Beckham didn't really help that cause imo.

MLS is barely holding on. But the sport in general seems to have established a good beachhead. E-spin has enjoyed their involvement with the World Cup, Champs League, and now Euro08. More football is slowly being added in... just most of the fans I know around here don't care to watch MLS.

I got off a plane in Rome once, and two Americans were in front of me - this is true- one said to the other one "Do they speak English in Italy", the other guys like "I dont think so". ANd the first guy went "Well Im not sure, I dont trust countries that dont speak English maybe We should move on"

Also I was going to St Andrews one day on the train and we were crossing the Forth Rail Bridge, a yank on the other side of me with his friends looked out the window and saw the Forth Road Bridge, he then said "I was sure there were two bridges here" duh

no problem. It was a tough game and we won it with flair. The best part was when wee skippy dunked over the heed of that black dude who was 8 foot tall (you know the one - skinny guy with baggy shorts).
