    The current MP’s said they got it wrong as a PR stunt. David Cameron has in the past hugged a hoodie and a huskie. PR bullshit.

    Funny thing about pit closures. Firstly I would say that there were far more pit closures in 1968 (76 pits) than in 1984 without a murmur. (63 pits). Why was it not damaging when a Labour PM, Harold Wilson closed pits in 1968? You are an anti Thatcher left wing loon, who wishes to find any excuse to berate her, except the one you actually harbour because you would be too embarrassed to say it out loud. She no longer gave undeserving people free money.
    <o:p> </o:p>
    Secondly, that on the eve of the minors dispute in 1984, the UK produced 100m tons of coal. 4 years later in 1988 three quarters of all mine workers had been fired. Does anyone know how much coal the UK produced in 1988? 100m tons still. Using the kind of innovation that should have been done over time to ease the burden on one industry towns that depended on coal.

    Miners, steel and shipbuilding were subsidised industries.
    <?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p> </o:p>
    Dockers were a closed shop gang until 1989, like giving the Krays an Elizabethan monopoly of the docks.

    NHS workers. The budget for the NHS has increased every year without exception in both real and absolute terms since 1948. Interesting thing about the NHS. The budget doubled between 2001 and 2010. Did productivity rise by 100%? No. It didn’t even rise by 1%. It fell by 7%. The extra money simply went on executive pay for people hospitals don’t need that stop people getting the drugs and treatment their tax money pays for. Each hospital should be a flat structure with a clinician in charge of executive decisions. My point here is that nationalised industries i.e. in the past coal, steel, shipbuilding and today health don’t give a * about the customers, only themselves. They don’t deserve your sympathy

    You are coming across as a * which after reading
    your posts on this subject is probably right.

    Did the UK produce the cheapest deep mined coal in Europe
    at the time of the strike?

    Were some other European countries subsidising their nationalised coal industries more than the uk did?

    Did the government sell off pits to RJ budge & companies like that
    that still got subsidised by me & tax payers but made * like him
    who were "conservative people" millions of pounds?

    & the * you spout about working people on welfare is a disgrace,i suppose you think everyone working in the health service etc.is on welfare
    & need "culling"

    Yes we all know about Harold Wilson...but * lied about the matter and took it to her grave. If you're quite happy to be lied to then good for you.

    This is the only place a thread about the possibility of a Cillian Sheridan returning could turn into a political debate :56:

    What qualifications does a clinician have to run a hospital?

    How can productivity rise in health care really ?

    How do you measure care?

    Was the liverpool care pathway a measurement?

    I refuse to believe that the difference is that 1 lied and the other didn’t. The effect would have been the same in 1968 as it was in 1984 i.e. people losing their jobs. They didn’t say in 1968, “ach well at least we weren’t lied too”. That would have made them feel better would it?

    Why don't people want to dance on Harold Wilsons grave?

    I suppose being a * means disagreeing with your world view?
    <?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p> </o:p>
    You shouldn’t compare coal with other countries. You must consider substitute products like North Sea Gas. Coalmining was part of the energy industry. There is no such thing as the coal mining industry. The miners could see which way the tide was going and tried to stop it by force. Coal, as a product was past its sell by date.
    <o:p> </o:p>
    Other European countries to this day subsidise coal and other industries. They have a different way of doing things across the English Channel.
    <o:p> </o:p>
    Tax payer’s money did go to private companies in coal and to this day other industries such as railways. The theory was that private companies can perform more efficiently than nationalised industries. This isn’t a perfect scenario. I have never heard of argument in favour of monopoly. Perhaps you know things about economic theory that no one else knows.
    <o:p> </o:p>
    A lot of NHS workers and workers in other industries do indeed get in work benefits, so required as an artificially high cost of living imposed by governments of both main parties since WW2. Petrol is subject to a 187% tax before considering VAT.
    <o:p> </o:p>
    Why shouldn’t NHS workers who are not needed be culled. Why pay more for something than you need to. Do you go into a shop and volunteer to pay more for a loaf of bread?
