This is a no-brainer. Very experienced, calm head and has incredible resilience to come back from what happened to him a few years ago.

Celtic have met a financial issue in their pursuit of signing Man United midfielder Christian Eriksen, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Eriksen’s wages could be a “big obstacle.”

The 32-year-old is on a £150,000-per-week deal at the 20-time champions, and that is proving to be a stumbling block for the Scottish giants.

Well-placed sources have informed Football Insider that Celtic aren’t going to get “anywhere near” the wages that he’s currently earning, which could stop a deal from happening in January

Brendan Rodgers is looking to bolster his squad, and adding an experienced European footballer would aid their attempts to thrive in the Champions League.

Eriksen has remained a consistent part of the United squad this season, having made 14 appearances across all competitions.

Eriksen is out of contract at Old Trafford after this season, which would allow him to change clubs on a free transfer.

The Denmark international might be inclined to sit and wait in a bid to explore his free options in the summer when more clubs could end up being available to him.

Eriksen has scored four goals and provided three assists for the 20-time champions this season as he has continued to prove his ability to deliver on the pitch.

Fabrizio Romano previously reported that Eriksen and United are expected to part ways at the end of the season.

Eriksen joined the Premier League giants in 2022 on a free transfer and has since made 86 appearances for the club.
