Ah the definition of insanity to repeat and all that. If you know our policy like I know our policy then you would see the sense in what I am saying. Let him go when he is nowhere near good enough sure but now he is useful. There's no point signing a shitebag from Lawwells pal who will be a worse option than him anyway. Simple as that.

I see what you mean, og and I agree with the principle, he'd have to take a pay cut though and be happy with a backup type role. If he's cool with that, I'd love to keep him for the reasons you mention.

mulgrew is back up as it is , no sense in keeping him when we have 35 midfielders who can't get a game as we look to sign another .he just ain't good enough to be offered a contract at his age like commons was

Fair dues but why wreak it by talking about pay cuts? Who cares what he gets paid? We already had a surplus of 11m this season why the * would we cut his wage? Can he be helpful in the qualifiers? Yes for his corners alone if he plays nevermind anything else. And another thing and this go's to everyone stop being ok with letting proven experienced players who have something to offer slink out the back door because our club has determined they no longer have sell on value. THIS IS NOT OK.

Just like Stokes, his time is up here. Good servant but it would be best for everyone if he's moved on in the summer.

I would keep him as CB position only. He is better than Ambrose.

We lack experience in our squad!

A fit Charlie provides that and cover at DM and CB..

Would give him another year with a possible option of a second year!

I think he's at best a back up CB possibly 4th choice would only be happy wa him staying if his wages reflect that tbh

I think Chaz can still do a decent job, good cover, can fill in around 3 or 4 positions and his set pieces can be good when he's on form.

Since the majority are in agreement that he will be back up at best he needs to be paid accordingly. We have a team and squad full of kids and we desperately need some experience in the team to help out the youngsters during games not just when they are playing tiddly winks at Lennoxtown. We desperately need an experienced CB (aye ok as well as another scoring CF) who can be our number 1 CB and rotate the other 2 younger guys until they are competent enough to take over as a pairing, unfortunately Charles is not that man. He maybe great craic and Broonies mate but he does not cut it for me.

I think he still has a place. He won POTY at CB then Lennon started playing him in DM, it was so daft.

Except, he didn't really. He played midfield, centre back and left back that season. Izzy was out the full season, he was there a lot. People remember CB because he was the one we trusted there in the big games against Rangers.

His best performance by far that season was the 6-0 at Rugby Park, from left back. Anytime Loovens was fit, that's where he played. He was also absolutely essential in midfield in Europe, he was excellent against Barcelona and Spartak Moscow the last 16 season from midfield.

His best performance by a long way was against Barcelona at Parkhead when we got beat 1-0, he was solid and classy on the ball. Held himself in there magnificently single handedly for 15 minutes after Broony let us down. If he hadn't missed that header before they got the goal it would have went down as an absolutely legendary performance, not just for the goal. But we got beat, so it's largely forgotten.

People forget what influence he's had with us in his time here. He has his place, he's only 29. Getting Mulgrew upto full fitness is massive for us, he's the experienced head that can play multiple positions, he knows what it takes to win, he knows what it is to play for Celtic and he is consistent. It would be foolish to let him go.

I stand corrected :52:. I agree it would be foolish to let him go.

I think if there's any ambition to improve the team and take forward steps in Europe then the club should be cutting guys like Mulgrew loose. Not offering them new contracts.

He's simply not good enough- demonstrated by his performances against the likes of Malmo this season, which was nothing short of an embarrassment in my opinion.

Yet he's one of our very few options that have proven themselves succesful in Europe. To be sucessful in Europe we need players who know how to play in it, which is exactly why we need players like him.

Of course, you also need a manager who knows how to use him. If you put him in at leftback and expect him to be at both touch lines, like Ronny did against Malmo, then you're onto * all.

I think having experience in a team is undoubtedly important. But it's not much of a consolation when those players can't run, turn like a bus to play a five yard side-ways ball or a Hollywood pass which more often than not ends up for a throw-in. And yet in his head I think Mulgrew believes he's Beckenbauer.

I think Celtic's poor results and abject performances in Europe over the last few seasons with those experienced players like Mulgrew (and others) in the side, suggests to me that we shouldn't be giving out contracts for sentimental reasons.

aye time for him to get jogged on as his wages will be far to much to keep him as a bit part player
