On his game, he is the best passer we have, I've said that for a while. However, recently, it's been a weakness. He has been very sloppy with the ball in my opinion.

He's a good long range passer - sometimes very good. It's more the quick-feet short-range stuff he struggles with because he's not quick. Back to defence after Denayer's away for me.

His passing has been a let down recently.

Hmmm. I disagree, he's been accurate, kept possesion well, kept the tempo of the game up. He has had anything spectacular but his passing accuracy is one of the best in the squad.

He has had a few slack ones lately, I will say that but he tends to pass the ball a * of a lot more than any other player in the squad.

    Mulgrew has 'decent' technique.

He has a decent set piece and a good cross.

His passing is abysmal though. He just doesn't have the brain to play centre mid.

Against Astra at home, he was Astra's best passer :smiley-laughing002:

He had two shockers. That night he did actually have the most passes made that night, the highest accuracy and our most accurate long passes.

He's not by any means of the word a bad passer.

What he has been at times this season, is sloppy.

Sloppy is exactly the word I used mate. I've said on his day, he is probably the best we have, but his passing has been below par this season. His set pieces have gotten poor as well, hence why he has been punted well down the pecking order.

Any time he scoops the ball in the deep lying position and brings it out and plays it square across the back line has me a nervous wreck..

Lost count how many times he's put us in immediate danger playing that ball (in some cases, blind) this season..

I like big Charlie, but he has been off the pace for a while. For me his best position is centre half but he is nowhere near as good as our starting two.

I'm watching a different game to everyone. He isn't playing like he did in his POTY season, of course he's not. But he's doing a job in there in my opinion. He is excellent at opening the game up and it's no coincidence that Johansen has came onto a game now he's back.

    * * someone earlier in this thread was slaughtering his passing ! Surely people don't agree with that ?

Holding midfielders are picked on more than any other because they do the stuff people don't notice. Jesus I had an argument with someone on here one day who said Sergio Busquets is *. It comes with the territory in that position.

Another player taking a tanking when the entire squads form dips...

His passing has been off, especially in Europe, compared with what he normally delivers. However, to call it abysmal or * is laughable. Call him slow or too ponderous but to say his passing is * is simply untrue.

You watch the same game as me and many others, how people can slate Mulgrew is to me * nuts, but the same people will slate Stokes and even Commons ffs.

Those 3 players cost us 1.4 mil combined, now people should think about that, then think what those 3 players have done for us.
    * if JG doesn't score soon,ah mean * oan tae * were wis the * Sunday:50:

He brings nothing to the team.

Slows everything down and misplaces far too many passes. His set pieces have always been overrated as well. Should be nowhere near the starting XI.

In a way I feel sorry for him because since he won POTY, he has everywhere except centre half where he is best.

Just because the whole team are under-performing, doesn't mean individuals within the team don't deserve criticism for their performances.

We haven't been playing all that badly recently though, and the entire squad's form hasn't dipped. In fact, there are more and more players finding form if anything.

Tricky - for me, Johansen comments are true, and he is a far better player when given that freedom that having Mulgrew in the side allows.

Cons of this are that I really hope a better alternative to Mulgrew is sourced, and that Broony also has a good few years left, injury free, as for me Mulgrew is an excellent squad player, but not the kind of guy at present with whom I can see us moving up a level overall while he in the side.

Has his moments, sure, but i'd personally be surprised if alternatives are not being investigated for future transfer windows. Diarra.....?

Serious note though, it's an area of the team that needs improved on.

Agreed. This is a position that we had filled with Wanyama, and instead of even trying to replace him, we have put a square peg into a round hole, and have got a centre half (in my opinion), trying to fill the void. Diarra would have been ideal.
