Why does he not captain the side anymore when Broonys not playing?

He does sometimes. We haven't got a vice captain at the moment though it's a shared duty.

It was Kayal but it's been swapped about so many times this season because of his injury.

What about that run tonight :notworthy

From left centre-back down the right wing, couple of stepovers and a pinpoint cross :35::35::35:

We probably take him for granted a bit, as we expect a few runs from the back and long range shots or crosses. But imagine for example John Terry, Rio Ferdinand etc doing that in a game :56: wouldnt be off MOTD for weeks.

    Completely agree.

The image of John Terry doing stepovers is quite amusing for some reason. :56:

This man is the footballer equivalent to a Swiss Army knife - you think you've seen everything in his locker but you still find another wonderful element to his game popping up from nowhere to do the job.

Actually have some serious man love for Charlie.

Absolutely delighted I was one of the few who defended him when we signed him :86:

Don't think I'm being over-dramatic here when I say he is the modern day successor to Billy McNeil in terms of what he brings to Celtic.

Absolutely heroic defending when he stopped Pohjanpalo turning inside him in the penalty box. People say he's not a defender or that he's not good enough for Europe - well I can't remember the last time I had as much trust in a Celtic centre-back as I do in Charlie.

2 games in Europe - 1 goal and 1 assist. Not many defenders would be able to say that.

Who would bet against him winning POTY this season as well?

I really do not understand when people say we have a poor defence, we have Adam Matthews one of the best prospects in Brittish football, Thomas Rogne, a really good central defender, in Muldini by far and away the best Scottish defender. He really is the full package, it amazes me other teams aren't sniffing around him, he really is class. And then Emilio who up untill that serious injury looked world class. I don't see how people can complain tbh

Aye it was a right good cross for Ledley to get on to, but remember the run both made, Mulgrew down the line and getting the ball over and Ledley running through to get on the end of it.

And Sammy did a power of graft too:celt_2::samaras:

I've said it 'til I've been blue in the face, even on here. His best position is left mid and I think we are seriously missing a trick by not playing him there.

Not only would we benefit from his crossing ability but, like tonight, he has plenty of tricks and footwork up his sleeve.

In an ideal world we get Rogne a quality partner and let Mulgrew move forward, his end product is incredible for a guy that is playing at centre half. In fact unheard of across Europe almost.

Second that. His inclination to whip balls in from further back could also benefit Izzy as Charlie wouldn't bomb up the wing allowing Izzy to overlap.
This was illustrated when Commons played in front of Izzy during 2010/11- Commons cut-in allowing Izzy the space to bomb forward. This, however, did not work when Sammy then played left-mid prompting Izzy to stay back because Sammy would play further forward.

Ergo - Charlie at left-mid allows for great delivery for deep areas; Izzy to overlap circa 2010/11; Commons to play a more central role; and Sammy to 'roam' like the free spirited creature that he is! :icon_mrgreen:

I love just sitting back and thinking about the way we are talking about Mulgrew now, the man who I gave no real hope of succeeding at Celtic has rammed those words down my throat and continues to do so with every game. Keep up the good work Charlie you're the prodigal son!

Instead of who, though? Commons, Samaras and Brown look like being our wide players, with the addition of Forrest when he's fit.

As we can see already so early in this season it's pretty impossible to pick a starting 11 and expect it to remain for 2 games on the bounce never mind anything else but on nights like tonight he is a definite option there.

In tough European away games I would play 4-5-1 with him on the left and Sammy up top on his own. You can then choose between Commons or Forrest on the right depending on which attributes you need for which particular game.

Aye, it's tricky picking a team at the present. We're not even sure if the likes of Kayal will be starting games or not.

But I'm not sure if we'll see Lennon benching Hooper. He's our main goal threat, and chances in Europe are precious.

Only reason behind hypothetically benching him is, if you are going to play Mulgrew wide then you might as well have height in the box or it's wasted.

In an ideal world we will have a physical goalscorer signed up within the coming few weeks.
