I have to disagree with you first:47:

:50:Hate the nail on the head with that post. They is no conceivable advantage to setting this during the famine other than the reasons you have stated.

    Four Lions.

I think people need to see what the programme is like and where the comedy is aimed at before getting offended, otherwise it looks like they have a bit of an agenda. As others have said, I don't see many people outraged by Blackadder Goes Forth.

If the comedy involved lots of potato related puns and slapstick jokes about people being too hungry to do basic tasks then we can all agree it's offensive.

Or in The League, where the character Rafi says he went to New York in a policeman's uniform as soon as 9/11 happened so he could "get some crazy *". :56:

9/11 and 7/7 are minor events to a systematic genocide

Again I'll ask would it be okay for a German TV station to do a sitcom based on a * death camp

Why does it make any difference whether it is or not ? Would it make it any more or less offensive to those that lost relatives during the Holocaust ?

    Yes.

Was it wrong for a US company to make Good Morning, Vietnam? No. Comedy can often put a message across than nothing else can.

So you expect this show to have an underlying moral message. Maybe we should wait before making this kind of judgement.

If the jokes were all about making fun of dead Jews then no it wouldn't. If the writers treated the situation with sensitivity and respect for the victims then I wouldn't see a problem.

Maybe you should also wait before jumping on the offended bus as well.
