I'm sick of hearing people say "I'd rather be in our position than Rangers' position"

That is straight out of the Peter Lawwell phrase book.

Of course we as a club are in a better financial position than them, but try telling their supporters to swap places with us at this precise time. How many of them would?

3 league titles in a row, looking best placed for 4 and how many more, whilst we all huddle round and say "aye, but our debt is amongst the best in British football, albeit we are second best every season"

    Bullshit!

Every successful football club worldwide runs on debt. We can afford to push the boat out, and it wouldn't even be that far that we would be in trouble. Just enough to get us the sort of player that would fill the gaps that are transparent right now.

We've had umpteen transfer windows now to get a defence sorted, a goalkeeper in, a playmaker, and a solid striker. If we'd played it right, we'd be sitting with a settled squad and most probably be going for 3-4 in a row.

Take the blinkers off Lawwell. There are people outside of the boardroom looking for success, and not on a financial basis.

Incredibly it seems that there are a lot of fans who seem to revel in the fact that we are in a better financial position. Almost like the titles are secondary.

A shake up in the boardroom is needed. Lawwell has done nothing remarkable. Simply put he has got us spending less than we take in. That isnt rocket science. If he had managed to win us the titles whilst reducing the debt then he would get my eternal admiration. As it is he is making us into a laughing stock.

I cringe when I see his face on the box heralding our bank balance.

    * the bank balance. Get the team sorted.

I am with you there :50:
Roy Keane would get the results in the SPL alright. It's not difficult to be a good manager in the SPL, or at least it shouldn't be if you stick to the basics, and build from a sound defense with an exceptional goalkeeper between the sticks, and have wingers who not only attack but who are prepared to do the skirmishing to stop their opponent's full backs commanding the flanks. Just look at the hard work and industry Ranger's two wingers Lafferty and Naismith put in all day for their team, that is the sort of wingers we should have in our team. They protect and solidify the central midfield.Any general commanding a force always protects the middle of their army by having strength and tenacity on their wings.By having wing men who are prepared to battle and scrap all day long, and harrass their opposing full backs, allows their midfield the time and space to attack the opposing defense.

Some posters here are quick to point out Roy Keane's failure at Sunderland and with the Tractor Boys, but fail to mention Keane taking Sunderland up from the Championship to the Premier League in the first place. It's much easier to manage in the SPL, and I think Roy Keane would be the charismatic winning manager we should be seeking to employ if Lennon goes.

Way I look at it though both us and Rangers are a fanbase and the club is really just a structure to allow that to be expressed. As long as there are fans with these particular identities I think both clubs are indestructible. If they went bust they would just reappear with a slightly altered name, some big fat businessman in charge and rent the old stadium. Rangers might technically go into liquidation but they will reappear and would be back in the SPL in a few years.

I think we are all in agreement that we need a quality, solid centre-back. Could we get such a player for say.....£4million and pay him £20-30,000 a week?

I believe that has to be possible. So why don't we just go and * do it in January?

The debt level is currently next to nothing and if for some reason we really, really need to get that money back in the future then we always have the option to sell Kayal or Izaguirre. We'd get £4million for either of those two players.

Just for once actually going out and signing a defender who would make a big difference could be the difference between success and failure this season. We should have done it during the summer but the summer has come and gone so there is no use whining about it any more. Let's not waste another January transfer window. If we're still in the hunt to win the league come January 1st then I say we take the bull by the * horns and give Neil Lennon 1, maybe even 2, proper quality players to improve his team with.

I dont read it mate, but there are some on here who feel the same way. I laughed out loud when Lawwell came out with his 5 year plan for us to win the SPL and get back into the CL. Seriously laughed.

And yet no-one asks him what happened to the plan for the last 3 seasons.

Why dont we sell Ki? A player worth £20m to some, and who isnt as effective in the centre as Kayal or Ledley.

No, seriously, if we were to get anything in the region north of £5m for him and invest it in a good CB then I would be delighted.

This is the same Roy Keane that couldn't win in 14 matches straight in the Championship.

Snarling and scowling at everyone means * all when you have no man management skills whatsoever.

Lets not turn this into a Ki bashing thread Kemo, i know your opinion of him and its well documented i disagree, however more to the point on the board i have always agreed with your views, frankly ive been saying this for over a year on this forum and only recently have people begun to see the light so to speak, if we are within touching distance of around 6 points by january hopefully the board can sanction 2/3 quality players that will give us a boost for the title run in, and im talking a CB, a ST and a playmaker of sorts that will unlock tight defences. Frankly its time for lawell to put up or shut up with this cliched bullcrap that comes out every summer before season ticket renewal.

My only problem is the 3 quality players needed in this team could cost 6-8 million pounds, will the board really stump up that kind of cash unless one of our players left. A club the size of celtic with year in year out revenue upward of 50 million pounds can afford to have a manageable debt of 10m. Not the level of the huns of 20-30m but 10m is manageable. I cannot stand this balance sheet nonsense and people actually believing that celtic cannot afford certain players because we can if only we loosen the purse strings a little. We may play in a backward league in Scotland but we are CELTIC, the least i expect of a celtic board is to show a bit of fight and some * ambition to take this club forward and not consistently backwards.

Yeah, maybe I am a bit harsh on him. I will try not to be in the future.

I think it is down to Lennon and push for the level of quality our side needs. As you said £10m is more than manageable.

My fear with this, is the board may sack him before the window opens if he asks for better players.

Alternatively we sell players that can bring in the funds. For me the only players in the team that we cant afford to lose are Hooper, Kayal and Izzy. If we get a decent offer for anyone else, we should seriously consider it, because the current personnel are not up to the task.

I would prefer the board to open the wallet, but Teflon Pete is reluctant.
