I heard we were the first team in 2012 that stopped messi scoring or setting up a goal. If that's true that's some stat

Load of crap from the paper, according to the UEFA website we had 26% and Sky says we had 18.1%, I'd trust those 2 websites any way over the daily record.

Hopefully the point we almost got in Barcelona will not cause us to miss out on qualification for the last 16.

Aye, it's only stats, but when it comes down to it, we're * at this level when it comes to keeping the ball. Which doesn't surprise me in any way, as we're one of the poorest teams in the competition.

On the bright-side, we look good going forward and not bad at the back, so there's hope. We need much better performances from the likes of Mulgrew and Ledley, who're usually two of our stand-out players, but haven't done too well in the CL, so far.

To be honest, this thread is much-ado about nothing. Barca dominate almost every team they play with similar possession stats. DR is just as negative as the Scottish commentators who cover our CL games on Sky.

The most amazing thing is how Barca just suck all the confidence out of the opposition. We are actually a good passing team normally.

Hooper, for a striker, is excellent at linking up play and bringing midfielders and wingers into it. Kayal, Ledley, Mulgrew, Wanyama, Ambrose are all good passers as well and we do a small version of what Barca do in the SPL, when we're at home we monopolise possession and take ages trying to break down all 11 teams who park the bus.

But in the Nou Camp we just booted it long and didn't believe in ourselves to hold onto it for more than 5 seconds.

The Daily Rankers reporting false facts once again? Gee, there's a shocker

Also, this coming from a rag that WRONGLY reported Sevco breaking a world record for attendance in a 4th tier footbal match :smiley-laughing002: (and the rag wasn't even close with this as 3 other matches had beaten the filth for attendance).

The fact of the matter is that what idiots who make up this * tend to forget is that possession counts for * all if you don't do anything with it. Barcelona had about 80% of the possession yet they only JUST scraped a win.

Possession doesn't tell the full story of what happened and as usual with the majority of the Scottish press instead of praising how unlucky we were and how well we defended, they focus on the negative :87:

When Sky showed the possession stats during the game, it was 77%-23% towards the end of the game.

You can't lose 13% in the last 10mins.

Every factual site has a different fact of what the percentage was.

The Daily Ranger obviously by far the worst.

I look at it this way, that's 10%, 18% or 26%, whatever it is, more Champions League possession than Sevco will have for a good few years, if ever ! Plus it's hypocrisy from a set of manky supporters who's previous team bored their way to a UEFA cup final , in a city they then destroyed !!!!

I think that Barca team is one of the greatest teams in the history of football. And they have the greatest player who has ever graced the game. We have a defence made up on freebies and one of the youngest squads in the champions league. I couldnt give a toss if they had 90% possession! Why should we really assume any differently

p.s Why people buy these rags is really beyond me. Just ignore them and they would have to go away.

It's a nothing stat. Because of the way Barca play looking for holes and passing it back and forth until one appears keeps the possession high. If they were to start panicking like a normal team they would have lumped the ball into the box over and over again and we'd have got the ball. Ultimately they did do this in the last 30 seconds and they scored from it. Also, had they scored a few we would have kicked off a few times and had more possession that way. It's a testament to our defence that they kept the ball for so long. They were fantastic and offered no space.

However, 10% is clearly bullshit, we might not have had it much but we had it more than that. Unlike Chelsea last year we actually tried to go forward when we got the ball (nobody will ever convince me that it was a pass to Torres and not a lucky hump up the park).
