If we get a solid DM, I think we could be tough enough to cause a giant killing. Especially Man City.

Does it need to be 4-0?

I'd be more inclined to say yes if it was a 2-1 defeat with them scoring the winner late on, means the atmosphere would still be electric for the majority of the game and we'd still look pretty * good.

It'll be tough but we could. If we signed another couple of quality players, McCarthy and someone else of similar standard, I'd fancy us to get a win.

People are selling us short. Obviously it's one of the tougher groups. Obviously progression is unlikely. But we're still not a club teams will want to play. Celtic Park is still a really tough place to come. We're already looking a better side than when we last qualified for the last 16. And as for Man City, yes they spend big but it takes more than 11 individuals to make up a team. They're not great defensively, there are no leaders in the back line without Kompany, who is injury prone. Let's just go and see what happens, show everyone why Celtic Park is considered such a tough ground to come to in Europe, and use the money to strengthen even further.

A quick look at a big Citeh forum (Blue Moon) earlier seemed to suggest that they are not very keen on coming here, due to the atmosphere and our rather formidable home record.

Barcelona know what we can do here. A lot of their current team played against us in 2012.

2013 at home against them was a close affair too, undone by Neymar the * being a cheating wee *.

Thought we played better in that game than we did in 2012 TBH. Forrest and Mulgrew were unlucky not to score.

It's just a hypothetical scenario in which we take a thrashing at home in return for a famous win at the Nou Camp. Obviously it would be nicer to run them close. But in the scenario i offered i wouldn't mind a 4-0 loss at home if we were to win over there.

It wouldn't be nice to see Celtic lose like that but i would take solice in the fact that Barca could do that to ANYONE. Just ask Real Madrid :icon_mrgreen:

I think this draw is gonna help our chances of getting good players in ,someone could see it as an opportunity to get noticed by a top side like Barcelona or a top paying side like city

Hopefully Kieran Tierney doesn't play TOO well against them..

Don't want any Manc or Barca scouts tempted.

Almost everyone here is ecstatic we qualified for CL and will get £30mil, not least because we missed out on that the last two years and stagnated (if not regressed).

But you need to acknowledge the fact that we leave a lot of money on the table when we don't win games and don't progress in Europe.

You talk about the last 16 like it doesn't mean anything. The last time we made the last 16 was in 2012-13, when we went 3W/1D in GS. If we were to repeat that performance we would earn €10.5mil in prize money. That is €9mil more than what we would earn if we matched the performance of our last CL GS appearance in 2013-14.

Even finishing 3rd and going to EL is much better than finishing 4th and getting dumped. The last time we did that, we went 2W/1D in CL GS and then progressed two more rounds in EL. Repeating that would earn €5.25mil. And let's not even get to making the finals out of a 3rd place CL GS finish like we did in 2003.

And again, as I mentioned in the last post, this is aside from the other benefits like club coefficient. Win more games and we won't have to be in Pot 4. Win more games and we as champions of Scotland won't have to start in CL 2Q.

It's truly not that hard to understand.

Hugely difficult draw, way I see it would you want to play with Megan Fox, Katy Perry and Beyoncé but have little chance of pumping them? Of course you would:50:

I agree. Hate losing at home but any win against Barça would get us a long way towards progressing.

This is all very well, but what does it change exactly?

The draw has been made, we're in the group of death, embrace it and just look at the positives of what we could achieve here with a bit of luck on our side and a tactically astute manager.

I'm not going to go back and forth with you on finances/numbers, but you're being very defeatist by suggesting that we're automatically going to finish 4th just because of the other teams in the group.

I believe we have a better manager/coach now than we did when we last competed in the CL group stages. It also remains to be seen how many more players we sign and how good they are.
