It's not easy easy but it's not the Champions League. I agree though that it's a lot better now than the UEFA Cup was as more wealer teams are getting into the CL Groups and so other good teams are going into the EL Groups. But the standard is nowhere near the Champions League.

I agree with the guy that said Ajax/PSV, I think a Dutch team would be ideal as we could win home and away they always play attacking even though their team isn't the best which would suit us.

I would take Ajax, Hapoel-Tel Aviv and Red Star Belgrade. Rangers played Hapoel and Red Star recently and they looked poor outfits. Get some coefficient points piled up by winning most of the games, the UEFA Cup/Europa League is ideal for building up coefficient points because there are some easy matches although doesn't look many easy ties now as all the teams are a similar standard.

Roma or Lazio wouldn't be bad either, good teams but to get to go to Rome and also Italian teams aren't our most difficult opposition with their slow paced passing football.

I wonder how we will actually do in the Europa League aswell, we could go on and win it. Most of our squad have only played in the Champions League so will be used to that standard as the norm for European games but the Europa is obviously a step down in class.

Maybe, but seeding is based on performance in the past 5 years. Fenerbahce and PSV have been to CL Quarters in the past 5... so I think they're about the same level as us over the time period considered.

The others... is probably that the seeding points is all * up. For example, you can easily get more points for getting to last-16 in UEFA than you do getting to last-16 of CL.

Everton is * in Europe and obviously hasn't been in CL the past 5 years, but they're very close to us in this seeding bullshit. :97:

this system is absolutely *. many teams who dont deserve to go through will play in the champions league but we will not :31: in the europa league however i would atleast expect us to go to the semis if not more. :celt_2:. i am sure we would be getting a tough draw but * we are celtic.

    That would suck. :54:
After last year, I'd like to avoid Villarreal. Sure we got revenge at home, but... let's skip that. Sporting would be a great 1seed if you ask me. I fancy our chances against them and it'd be a fun tie.
Dynamo as a 4seed (provided they beat Basel) is definitely a trap. Another potential 4seed I'd like to avoid is Hapoel. Fast counter-attack teams like these could give us some problems, even though most of us would consider them a step below us.

How do you figure it's *? Who are these teams that don't deserve to be in CL? We didn't win the league, we have no room to complain about having to go through qualifiers.

I'm not to bothered if we're in pot 1 or pot 2, if you want to do well in europe you have to beat the best teams at some point but obviously it would be a boost to be in pot 1. I'm more concerned about Rangers making it into pot 2 in the champions league!! If 2 teams out of Arsenal, Lyon, Panathaniakos or Sporting Lisbon don't make it through their CL play off and into the group stages then Rangers go into pot 2 giving them a much easier team in their group as they would avoid the likes of Real Madrid! If they get an easier group theres more chance of them getting to the last 16 and we will never here the end of it!!!! So i'll be cheering on 3 out of those 4. Obviously won't be wanting Arsenal to progress!!!

the earliest we can draw them is the quarters of either CL or Uefa cup.

as for people saying that Dynamo Moscow would be a trap door, i think we were quite comfortable home and away against them. i wouldn't mind them again as the enemy we know instead of landing a trip to the unknown a la Bratislava.

I think given our playing style, counter teams like Dynamo have potential to cause us problems -- they already did it once.
We're definitely the better team but because they play counter attacking football they can sneak a goal or two and then defend for their lives and waste time.
I wouldn't mind Fulham from pot4. In fact, I'm hoping for an EPL team in our group.

i see many teams who are nowhere near our standing like nicosia, sheriff and some more. the point is that this system is making the competition weaker and increasing the monopoly of the european bigwigs. the last system was decent since you could get in only if you play at that level. here small and inexperienced teams who play other small inexperienced teams will go through and will be the punching bags in the group stages. we are no pushovers and it would have been good had the old system been in place :50:

I prefer this system. It's called Champions League, Champions should take precedence. It doesn't matter who goes to group stages, you're still going to find the same 8 teams in the final stages. So the argument about making it "easier" makes no sense. They don't need any help to exploit CL already.
Right now you argue that only the best teams deserve to go through, but then you go into another thread and people are whining about the seeds (not about how the system is broke, but rather that seeding exists at all.) And they're basically claiming it should be a free-for-all with Arsenal, Barca, Lyon, and Porto in the same group. I'm sure once we got stuck in a group of death they'd be * about there being no seeds again. It's a double standard and just stupid. People are only * about it because we threw the league away last year.
Fact is, if we win the league we're virtually guaranteed CL. That's how it should be. So let's stop * about it and we should just make sure the silverware is secure at Parkhead this time next year.

didnt the champions qualify directly in the previous stage too ??. yes you will find the same teams in the final eight. but if in the group stages if you get say like celtic vs ac milan / ac milan vs any one of the clubs mentioned above, we atleast have a chance of an upset rather than a thumping home and away :icon_mrgreen:

The Champions of Scotland did. The Champions of other countries got to do what we're doing now -- stuck playing 4th place finishers like * Arsenal.

The seeding system is *.i think we could go pretty far in the europa league.i know the chance of CL football isnt over but im prepared for europa league football.if we do go into the europa league we should be able to look at out group and be confident of beating every other team in it.
