The depressing fact is, after about 6-7 weeks of the TW being open, that both our starting 11 and squad as a whole are weaker than when last season ended. I see no evidence whatsoever that suggests we have a transfer strategy that will bring in the level of player required to improve this Celtic side and make us more competitive in Europe.

I hope we are not waiting again to see if we get Champions League money, before backing Brendan in the transfer market again.

    Big risk if we are.

Hope not because then we've got about a week after the qualifier to do business, and I reckon when that is the case we are in a very weak position as selling clubs will realise what our strategy is/was and be in a position to ask for and get over inflated transfer fees

Vast majority of managers we go for play a very similar style and players are likely to fit in such systems. Last time we had a manager who played a different style was Lennon in his 1st spell which was over 10 years ago.

It's a ridiculous situation to give a manager a 3 year deal, then not back him the final season and essentially just tread water until the following manager comes in.

Again a lot of these issues could be sorted with a proper director of football and a recruitment team that is fit for porpuse.

    Club is so unprogressive.

Daily Record transfer bulletin this morning

Frontline reinforcements appear to be the order of the day for Celtic – and that means Odsonne Edouard isn't straying far from the headlines.

The Crystal Palace frontman played the best football of his career after Brendan Rodgersbrought him to Parkhead but finds himself at a crossroads after his move to the Premier League hasn't quite gone to plan

Four years have passed since his £13m move south and, after an underwhelming loan spell at Leicester last season, he's been made available. And you'd be naive to think Rodgers isn't at least keeping tabs on the situation.

There's an obvious stumbling block. We understand the Frenchman earns a base salary north of £70,000 a week at Selhurst Park while Spotrac rank it much higher than that at £4.7m per year – around £90,000 weekly.

Palace are itching to part ways with Edouardwho triggered a one-year extension last year which sees his contract run until the summer of 2026. But if there's a way to make it work financially then Celtic won't hesitate over a striker who would be a sure thing for a second spell in Glasgow.

Elsewhere, Luis Palma has thrown his future into further doubt with a cryptic social media post as he seemingly nears the exit door.

The winger spent last season on loan at Olympiacos but they elected not to sign him permanently and he now finds himself in purgatory so to speak – with no apparent future at Parkhead and no queue of suitors waiting to offer him an exit route.

Rodgers famously (or infamously) dubbed him 'El Estrella' (Spanish for the star) during his press conference last summer, but seemingly doesn't fancy him with the exit door open to the Honduran.

Now he's shared a post on Instagram which reads "Explicar da mucho trabajo... júzgame y sé feliz." That translates to "Explaining is a lot of work... Judge me and be happy."

Another winger who looks likely to exit this summer is South Korea star Yang who, despite Nicolas Kuhn's exit, is expected to be surplus to requirements.

He was a £2m signing two years ago but only started 11 times last season and, as Rodgers reshapes his forward line, looks free to leave if he can find a new club

Norwich City are said to be interested in the wide man and any bid that would see them recoup the £2m they paid for the 23-year-old is likely to be considered.

As far as incomings in the forward line go, Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Shin Yamadalook like the most likely additions at this stage and, on the former, Royal Antwerp sporting director Marc Overmars recently called for 'attractive offers' for the Belgium U21 cap.

He's likely to be by far the more expensive addition of the two, with Kawasaki Frontale striker Yamada expected to cost around £1.2m.

Elsewhere we understand the Hoops are continuing to pursue a deal for Flavio Nazinho, the left-back eyed up as short-term backup and perhaps a long-term successor to the returning Kieran Tierney.

Landing a new player in that position was always going to be tricky considering the spot will be Tierney's if he stays fit. But that's a big if where the Scotland star is considered and there are likely to be chances for up-and-coming Nazinho as and when the deal gets over the line.

So that'll be another week of no signings. We'd have heard something by now.

I can remember when Celts for Change campaigned to rid the club of the Kelly dynasty and, at that time, there were still happy clappy fans writing in the Celtic View in support of the the guys who nearly ran our club into the ground. I am not saying that our present board have the same short fallings re business acumen as they have amassed a healthy bank balance for the club however, I believe that the present board are failing our club when it comes to the footballing side of the club. We struggle to develop our youth players, we don't have a clear scouting system and we constantly fall short when it comes to identifying and signing players. I feel that this season will be crucial as we have seen a few of the clubs around us strengthening their teams and we also know what monetary reward CL qualification brings so, the next few weeks will determine if our board are ready to stand up to the plate or are prepared to gamble and risk loosing everything.

That's what I think too mate. And if we are knocked out we are stuffed. Balikwisha should have been here last week, and it looks like the other targets have been put on the back burner, it's the only thing that makes sense now.

    Brendan will be furious.

Russell Martin will be laughing his effin head off at the state of us, because he's basically got his signings all assembled, and being eased in and integrated into their squad.

Russell Martin has absolutely * all to laugh about. He should be more focused on hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen than us.

We need to stop comparing or concerning ourselves with that * basket case of a club.

We should be looking at clubs like Brugge, Midtjyllland, Copenhagen, etc. clubs with similar budgets, similar sized leagues and saying what are they doing and why aren't we doing it.

Comparing ourselves and focusing on simply being ahead of a pish Huns team is what the board have have done and is why we aren't as far ahead of them as we should be and why we are not doing enough in Europe.

It is a strategy we have done before.

6 weeks 6 days left until the window shuts. Most folk agree we need around 6 good players in (no including Shin). So that's one a week on average basically and with our conservative approach, it is a risky strategy to do wi CL qualifiers around the corner.

Folk may say, aye but we signed 3 in the last week last summer, but its a huge gamble looking to do business that late. Too many variables for our risk averse suits, over inflated prices etc...

Just wish our executives would be as professional and proactive on the football side as they are the commercial side.

To date our transfer business has been a bit underwhelming. Are we:
Waiting to see if we qualify for the CL phase?
Not spending like last year as the £20m + spent on Engels, Idah and Bernardo has not been value for money in the eyes of the board.
Playing a risky game with time ticking.

With the money in the bank and the sales of almost £20m this summer there is no * excuse and should not be waiting to see what happens with the UCL. Its by design of the board. Said it 1,000,000 times before they are *

Can’t see the winger thing as can’t see a quality winger in to be a stop gap until Jota is back and isn’t Nygren a winger? Agree with all of it though, to be honest have no faith in us bringing in what is needed and has been blatantly obvious for an age. Seems to me we are back to cheap punts. That’s not to say they may not end up decent. Again doesn’t seem to make any sense given the financial position we are in. The compensation rightly due to those abused under Torbett has rightly been agreed so there is no financial nasty surprise coming up.

I agree with you and that is what we should be doing, but you know and I know, the Huns will always be the metric that the Celtic Board will measure the extent of our ambitions.

Anybody else got the feeling there is a power struggle going on between Brendan, Tisdale and the Board over transfers?

Would love to see us sign 2/3 good experience players and grow our young players, sick of project signings and waiting till the last day of the window to get the last minute scraps.
We are always extremely slow out the traps in TW, Rodgers said they would address this and nothing has happend.

The state of our squad now is pretty threadbare.
Do we really want Yang leading us in the Champions League Qualifier ?
Who are we playing anyway ?
As it stands, I've got to be honest, I don't fancy our chances.

Same * again id say,.. Rodgers declining what's being offered up by the board while we leave it to see what comes available that he fancies.. gambling on starting team all being fit for the cl qualifiers and starting trusty or scales beside ccv also may be forced to playing nygren as a rw in that game
