Fran Alonso has claimed he was called a "little rat" in the build-up to an incident that saw him HEADBUTTED by a Rangers coach.

The Celtic Women's boss had just watched his side * a point from their Old Firm clash this evening in dramatic fashion thanks to a Caitlin Hayes equaliser in the NINTH minute of stoppage time. The Light Blues had looked to be closing in on a relatively comfortable victory after Brogan Hay had capitalised on a defensive mistake by Hoops skipper Kelly Clark to give her side the lead during the first half.




However, there were shocking scenes at full-time when, as both sets of players and staff were shaking hands, Rangers coach Craig McPherson was spotted by the TV cameras running up to Celtic boss Alonso before appearing to headbutt him from behind. McPherson was immediately pulled away by Hoops players and coaches while Alonso was also held back.



And speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Alonso insisted he hadn't spoken to the Ibrox coach before the incident before claiming he had been called a "little rat".

He explained: "I don't know. You can see there, somebody just pushed me from behind.

"I don't know, I never talked to him the whole game. It's always disappointing to concede a goal in the last minute, I totally get it but I don't know.




I was called 'a little rat'!"


For his part, Rangers boss Malky Thomson hadn't seen the incident at the time but admitted it would be investigated.

He said: "Without me seeing it at all, I don't think I would comment on it.




If that's the case, then there will be an investigation into it and we'll obviously look at it.

"But listen, I think it was a great spectacle for the fans watching. It had everything, a bit of drama, two goals, it had everything about it


I'm a wee bit gutted, it does feel like a loss, but we're Rangers. We'll need to pick ourselves up and move on."

Rangers women's coach Craig McPherson appeared to headbutt Celtic women's manager Fran Alonso after their 1-1 draw at Broadwood on Monday night.

Caitlin Hayes scored an equaliser for the Hoops in the ninth minute of injury time - sparking wild celebrations from their staff and players.



Following the full-time whistle, Rangers coach McPherson was spotted approaching Alonso and driving his head towards him.

Asked by Sky Sports about the incident after the game, Alonso said: "It is frustration. It is not how I would show frustration but that is what it was and I understand what happened.


"It is football. These are the emotions. It was not much. I felt a little bit of contact and then I heard him call me a 'little rat'. I don't know why. I don't know the reason.

"You would have to ask him. But I had no issues with them during the game. But, honestly, for me, it is nothing. It can stay here as part of the game.

"I don't wish him to be banned or suspended. It is not something you want to see but for me it is not a big issue".

Rangers manager Malky Thomson was also asked about the incident after the game, admitting he had not seen the incident but that an investigation could take place.

He said: "Without seeing it, I won't comment on it. If that's the case there will be an investigation.

"Craig is not that type of person. I think it is passion and we saw a lot of that on the pitch with two top sides coming together."

Police have now confirmed they are investigating the incident, with a Police Scotland spokesperson saying: “We have received a report regarding an incident at Broadwood Stadium on the evening of Monday, 27 March, 2023.



Enquiries to establish any criminality are at an early stage.”

 

5.30pm as I type and no word this thug has had his P45 yet just sums up this club who looks like condoning this behaviour and no wonder their fans carry on this way .

 

The * didn’t even have the decency to do it face to face, hope the slimy * gets charged and loses his job, scum of the earth that lot.

He should have lost his job by now and be facing criminal charges.
