I was a bit worried with Ewens leaving but Wellings is doing the business.

Captain Kelly Clark celebrated a magnificent 200 appearances for the club in typical defender’s fashion with a solid cleansheet, as Celtic stretched their unbeaten domestic run to twenty games with a 6-0 win over Partick Thistle.

Charlie Welling bagged her first hat-trick for the club as Maria Olafsdottir Gros and Shen Mengyu opened their accounts to compliment Kathleen McGovern’s first half strike, but the afternoon belonged to Clark, who celebrated the milestone with her family and teammates in front of the delighted Celtic crowd.

The hosts had two golden opportunities within the opening stages with Wellings and strike partner Clarissa Larisey calling Thistle keeper Lauren McGregor into action early, with Wellings slicing an effort just over the stopper, before Larisey marginally lost the foot race in the opening two minutes.

But the Celts didn’t have long to wait before the opening came, with Wellings again stamping her name on the scoresheet. Liv Chance slotted the ball through for the striker who burst through the middle to drive towards goal and slip it through McGregor’s legs.

Despite Thistle beginning to grow into the proceedings a bit more, Celtic remained in control but had to bide their time for their second, only doubling their lead on the 31st. Larisey was involved again as she went on a darting run through the middle to be hacked down at the edge of the area, allowing McGovern to sweep an unstoppable low strike under the wall and into the far bottom corner to make it two.

Ten minutes later, Wellings was at it again. In a near carbon copy of her first, with Chance again playing through ball the striker was left to simply pass it into the net with ease, and just beyond the hour mark she secured her first Celtic hat-trick. Donaldson’s first time cross into the back post saw the Englishwoman move into the space and nod down from close range.

Donaldson nearly got in on the act herself but she had to watch on as her rocket from range nearly split the crossbar in two and the score remained 4-0.

With ten left to play the Hoops showed no signs of letting up with two of Fran Alonso’s summer signings breaking the duck for the Glasgow side, with substitute Olafsdottir Gros looping a low well-caught strike through the crowded area into the back of the net, before Shen sent the Chinese fans in the stands into raptures, volleying in from deep inside the box with just three left to play.

As the Celts recorded their second cleansheet in a row and marked twenty domestic games unbeaten, attentions again turned to Clark, with some warm congratulations from the stands and her teammates for her phenomenal leadership and commitment to the club.

Celtic: Johnstone, Craig, Clark, Hayes, Bowie (Olafsdottir Gros), Shen, Chance (Toland), Donaldson (Shorts), McGovern (Warrington), Wellings (Jacynta), Larisey

    Subs: Logan, Bartle
