Our first crack at the CL was always going to be an uphill task, hopefully the experience is put to good use and we make a better go at it next year, assuming we get there

9 points behind City and 4 behind the huns with 2 games in hand.

No more European football, no excuses now. Need to beating the other 2 and stop dropping points to Hearts and Hibs.

Celtic FC Women’s boss Elena Sadiku was pleased to see her squad end the year on a high, after putting in a five-star performance on Sunday afternoon.

Running out 5-0 winners over Spartans in the capital, braces from Saoirse Noonan and Emma Lawton, alongside Kelly Clark’s first half header sealed the win in the final game of 2024 for the Ghirls.

Reflecting on the performance as a whole, although there were aspects the Hoops Head Coach believes could have been better, Sadiku was very happy with the way her squad went about getting the win in Edinburgh.

She said: “It maybe wasn’t our best performance, in the way of how good we can be, but I feel like we dominated the game, and we were in control.

“They have a big chance, which Chloe Logan makes a really important save with. But overall, I thought we were dominant and controlled the game.

'That is something that we want to do. We score five different goals, and ultimately get the job done, which is pleasing.'

“It’s always good to get in at half time with a big advantage. We wanted to get out in the second half and do the same.

I think we had some good combination play in the second half and we created some good chances, but the goalkeeper had a really good game. Overall, we are just really happy with the three points.”

With Sunday’s game bringing to a close the action for the Ghirls in 2024, Elena Sadiku was keen to see her side put in a strong showing to round off the year.

And that is exactly what they did, securing their final three points of the year in style, with goals from across the pitch.

For the next few weeks, it is now about recharging for the Head Coach and her squad before coming back in January and looking towards more potential trophy success.

“Obviously we wanted to finish the year strong,” she said. “We wanted to get the win and put in a good performance. That is what we did.

"Now we need to recharge, and get back motivated to do really good things for the next part of the season
