Spartans beat Montrose 3-0. City and the huns put 7 and 9 past them.

Seem to have regressed a fair amount since last season.

Said it earlier in the thread but sadiku just doesn't fill me with any confidence at all, montrose had 2 shots on target and scored them both, not good enough.

At this point in the season it is just about the 3 points, first and foremost. Elena and the Ghirls have one eye on Champions League qualifying, which they have on the weekend. So tonight was just about getting the win and staying in touch with the league leaders, rather than stressing about GD.

That side that played tonight was primarily made up of squad players - there are only likely 2 definite, 1 probable, and 1 maybe... so 4 at absolute most that will start on Sunday.

The 3 points are the most important thing aye but this is Scottish women’s football. The gap between Celtic and Montrose women is wider than the gap between the men’s teams. Even with a B team we should be dealing with them comfortably.

Not conceding 2 and only adding 2 to a goal difference that is already absolutely miles behind the huns.

Think we are just totally unconvincing and have been for years now. We won the league last season and yet I still thought we scraped a lot of games we should have been comfortably winning.

And on a sort of side note (not in response to your point). I’ve mentioned this before but I can’t stand the “Well done girls!” or “Better luck next game!” patter you see in women’s football. It’s so patronising and ridiculous. Celtic women’s fans should have the same demands on that team than we do on the men’s team.

It’s this idea from many that because it’s women, we have to be really soft and can’t criticise harshly. Proper hate it.

How exactly is it 'totally unconvincing and has been for years now'?

It should be remembered that Celtic's women team only went professional in 2018 and much of the progress that was made was following the arrival of Fran Alonso in January 2020, including winning back to back Scottish Cups, but until last season we had never won the league, and that was in part due to Elena Sidiku building on what she had inherited from Alonso to get over the line.

In 2022/23 the Ghirls narrowly missed out when City scored their injury time winner v Sevco, which meant they won the title but they won it clearly by 2 points in the end, not on GD. In fact Celtic had a much, much better GD than City did that season (botj scored more and conceded considerably fewer), but City won the title.

Last season, Celtic did win the league title for the first time ever, on a GD of +13 over Sevco. The post split from last season also highlights there was not much in it. Celtic scored 24 in those last 10 games, Sevco 21 from their last 10.

But it is points that matter most, GD is only used when looking to break a tie. The team has to have the points on the board in the first place. How many titles come down to GD in either mens or women's football? It happens - and including the Bhoys being on the wrong side of that - but it is a rarity and incidently, in the season when a title was decided on GD, the following season has never come down to GD again.

The Ghirls priority at the moment is entirely on the CL. Making sure that the team still gets the 3 points in the league matters of course but with so many changes made, it is understandable. The team that went out did the job, they got the all important 3 points and admittedly not by a particularly impressive margin, but they got the job done. Sadiku used the squad players so that the first choice are all ready to go for tomorrow's CL game and the 2nd leg, both of which are happening here.

I don't understand how you don't consider this all to be about progress?

A couple of seasons ago, the starting first XI could hand out hammerings but the fringe players often could not get the job done. The squad depth has been strengthened as well as adding a bit more quality to the starting first choice XI, players are progressing and developing and making that step all the time, the Ghirls are now the defending champions and so close to reaching the CL for the first time - a feat that only 1 Scottish team has ever done, when City did it in 2019/20... and reached the QFs - so getting to the CL would be massive achievement.

With all due respect to Montrose, trying to rattle up the GD against them was never going to be a priority, so long as the team that did play got the win, which they did.

By contrast these next 2 games, tomorrow and Thursday, against Vorskla are massive, massive, massive!

I'm confused, why are celtic listed as the away team when the game is being played in Airdrie? Are the home and away legs both being played in Scotland as the other team are Ukranian?

Both legs are being played in Glasgow, because there is a war happening in Ukraine that you may've heard of. It's been in the news a bit over the last few years.

Thursday technically is the 'home' leg.
