Think Rogic in behind of those two could be incredible. Although I'd also then worry about Roberts being in a slightly deeper position, think he's gonna be best on the right of a forward 3, especially with only Janko behind him at rb. Defensively that would be a problem I reckon.

Because we need goals to go through, I'd also play Griffiths in the middle. I'd play Roberts on the left and Dembele on the right. I doubt that'll happen though. If no Roberts on the left, then I'd go with Armstrong who looks hungry to prove himself.

I'd like Rogic as our attacking cm, with Brown and Bitton sitting deeper. I expect them to be fitter and more comfortable on our own pitch. If they can't perform at Parkhead against this team, then they shouldn't be at the club.

Is Boyata fit? If so I'd play him beside Sviatchenko. Although I'd rather sort out Mulgrew's contract and play him.

Tierney on the left and Lustig on the right.

I don't think Dembele looks like a guy who can play on the wing at all.

He's a striker and we need goals, I'd go two up front 4-1-2-1-2

    Gordon
    Lustig Sviatchenko Kelleher Tierney
    Brown
    Rogic Armstrong
    Roberts
    Dembelé Griffiths

I'd do the 3-5-2 at this stage. Lock midfield down completely and have 2 good strikers roaming that box for goals, with 3 solid defenders at the back for the couple of times they may get by our midfield. Simple is best at this stage. Confusing formations and booklets to learn them is a bit much and takes time. Simple game and get the job done.

I don't want Brown and Bitton in the same midfield. It doesn't work for me. Both are far too slow on the ball and that allows teams to get their defensive shape together. McGregor would play ahead of either of them in my opinion. He was wrongly left out on Tuesday in my opinion.

Id love a 4-4-2 if we had anyone to play at left mid. Would stick to having paddy on the right.

4-1-3-2 I think is the best way to go, gives us a bit of width and two strikers, because we need goals.

    Gordon
    Lustig Ajer Sviatchenko Tierney
    Bitton
    Roberts Rogic Armstrong
    Griffiths Dembele

Maybe an argument for McGregor to be there instead of Rogic just to give us a bit more going back the way.

More than an argument, McGregor has to start after Bitton's performance in the 1st leg, you can't let those kind of performances go unpunished, he just didn't give a *. Think McGregor will bring more bite to the team in the middle as well, none of that casual * Bitton does.

433 is fine, if the right players are played.

Either Griffiths or Dembele start as the striker. The other will just have to sit on the bench, as neither of them are wingers.

A front 3 of Griffiths/Dembele, Roberts and Christie (I know he was * the other night but most were).

A midfield 3 of Armstrong, McGregor and some * else. I'd give Ajer a go.

Our midfield is just woeful :smiley-laughing002:

We've got dozens of possible combinations with the likes of Brown, Johansen, Bitton, McGregor, Christie, Armstrong, Roberts, GMS, Ajer etc but pretty much everything I've seen anyone come up with lacks balance and physicality imo. We've been crying out for a proper DM for the best part of a year now.

Even though Rogic was gash the other night I'd still play him in the midfield 3. On our pitch he is bound to have a better game.

We were gash the other night. Utter tripe. However playing on an actual football pitch should make a difference.

If it doesn't we don't deserve to be in the competition, quite frankly.

year on year our team regresses, from burns mcstay mcleod, Mcstay, collins, grant, then stan lennon lambert, to some of the * wearing the hoops today, big jock will be turning in his grave

i shudder to think what kind of 2nd rate imposters we will have in the next few years

How can you expect a * team to win by that many goals. It doesn't matter who Celtic play it will always be close if a team sets up to frustrate you and we don't make wholesale changes and get the right players in.

I think we'll run out comfortable winners too(now I've got over the initial trauma)

Brednan has maybe found out a bit about his squad and realise major surgery is required. And it will give him an even bigger mandate to take to the board.

CL qualification is essential to sell the club to potential players and hopefully this will just be an embarrassing blip along that road..

We've got to add some * steel and quality to that midfield sick of saying it..

But for the game coming up..

McGregor and Rogerts need to feature..

If it's any consilation, I don't believe it can get any worse. They don't actually contribute anything just now. If you were to think what an ideal midfield does we would all probably come up with the same answers - control the tempo, support the striker(s), create chances, hold possession, protect the back four etc...but we literally don't do any of that particulalry well. That's part of the reason I would like us to go back to something simple like a 4-4-2, we have an entire midfield who seem to be unsure of what their roles really are. A flat 4 with crossing ability and pace on the wings, a ball winner protecting the back four and someone dynamic enough to join the attack might not be fashionable but its simplicity would do us the world of good just now imo. The trouble is we only really have 1 player that I'm entirely confident could fulfil any of those roles, and he's on loan.
