Celtic vs Atletico Madrid, 30/11/2011, 6pm, ESPN

I think a lot of people are forgetting just how good Atletico are. I still think we can score but I think we might get beat.

 

Best case scenario = We win, Udinese lose, and a point in Udine gets us through.

 

I think its hard to judge though, Europa League games tend never to get out of first gear. Nobody really plays anywhere near their best.

 

Atletico are a good side, but not having a great season. Disappointing result for them on Saturday. They are also having onfield discipline problems with a raft of bookings and sending off's recently.

I dont think it's wrong to have a wee bit of optimism. Hopefully we are getting them at a time when they are off form and we are playing with a bit more confidence. Even if there isnt a full house tonight, the crowd could make all the difference.

 

A point away to Udinese would have a very very slim chance of happening though.

They have won 8 of their 9 home games so far this season, only Arsenal have won there and they really robbed Udinese who should have pumped them. They have scored 17 and only conceded 4 in those 9 games and 3 of those 4 conceded were in their first 2 home games so in their last 7 home games they've won the lot and only conceded 1 goal.

 

you're right there. They aren't on very good form, not even decent and are pretty rough players so tend to give away a lot of fouls. I just hope Lennon doesn't go to defensive mode and play one up front.
Imo, Atletico are there for the taking and we have to go out and put pressure on them from the start. 2 up front is a must. Think Wanyama and Kayal to fight it out int eh midfield.

Sounds just like the huns away record this season before Killie beat them at the weekend there. Stranger things have happened! Although I would agree it would be a huge ask to get anything over there. Hopefully they send out their reserves again...

 

Yeah, it's tough. But I think there's a better chance of us getting a result there than there is Rennes beating Atletico in Madrid.

Probably best to wait and see what happens tonight though

 

Udinese should not be sitting where they are in the group. They've been quite lucky, so far. We should be in their place, instead, on seven points with Atletico.

And yes, I'd expect us to beat them in our next encounter. Italian teams are not very good in Europe anymore. I was impressed with them against Arsenal earlier in their campaign, but doubt we'll see a similar performance.

 

Just watched the madrid derby again they use dirty tactics they were kicking real off the park at times. Hopefully they get a few sent off tonight

They beat Rennes 2-1, we beat Rennes 3-1. Therefore, we'll beat them by the odd goal!

 

there should be a better attendance since today is the public sector strikes. i hoping at least 40,000 will turn up. i hate CP empty at european games. according to the celtic website the upper sections are sold out and where the green brigade are is sold out as well

The atmosphere at the udinese game was good despite the empty seats.
