My analysis of some players in tonight's game.

We'll never get anywhere in Europe with Anthony Stokes leading the attack. Decent at SPL level but not good enough to make the step up.

it's good to see that it looks like Deila has given Kayal a fresh start. In Scott Brown's absence he can play himself back into being a regular.

Johansen is looking explosive with his bursting runs from midfield. A total box to box midfielder who can score goals. I reckon he'll score atleast 12 this this season for us.

Don't know about bomb scares in Derry but Ambrose, only on the pitch 5 mins gave the ball away right on the edge of the box, with 5 minutes to go and only he was able to get back then Maribor could easily have nicked one against the run of play.

Berget is continuing to impress me and looks a good signing. Plenty of pace, good in the air and an eye for goal. Perfect replacement for Sammy.

All in all I thought a decent result and one we would have taken at the start of the night. If we had have been more clinical in front of goal then on another night we surely would have had this tie out of sight. Anyways i'm confident we'll have the beating of them at Celtic Park next week.

    HAIL HAIL!!

    Completely agree with you mate.

I'm pretty sure I seen someone blame him for the goal earlier in the thread :smiley-laughing002:. Not sure who it was.

We are a work in progress with some new players still working their way into the team yet and familiarising themselves with each other, almost a developement team in some ways, so its a bit harsh I feel to say we will get pumped in the Champions League, assuming we get there. If we beat Maribor, Ronny may get one or two quality players in. I'm now hoping for a striker and left back.

Since Djik wandered it became Lustigs man, he was right next to him, he could see the play better than anybody from his position. A watched that reply about 8 times Lustig should of followed the runner.

Watch when there number 5 played the pass, Lustig lets the runner run right buy him. And before he realises, the guys in its to late.

But Denayer was the worst getting caught on the wrong side. If he had been goals side he would if got his foot to the ball.

As the pass is made Lustig has the best position to see the play

Doesn't follow the runner and he's in

Lustig was at fault to.. Denayer more so.

Thought we played well tonight, should really have won, can't see them beating us back at CP, all about qualifying now.

He was pretty good last year next to Van Dijk...putting him on the bench will destroy his confidence. Crazy how soon people forget his season last year.

But look at his (totally correct) starting position. Of course he came round on the cover but he's not goal side and couldn't get there in time. I honestly can't see how that's Lustig's fault. He was trying not to do what Izzy did and play everyone on.

I'll watch it again when someone uploads the goals, though. It's hard to tell from stills.

What we have learnt from tonight is Maribor are a lot worse than we all thought. They were very average and didn't really trouble up apart from a few long range shots. That being said 1-1 is a good result in Europe no matter who you are playing.

I fully expect there to be close to a full house there next week with us pumping them about 3-0. I will be really disappointed and shocked if we do not make the group stages now.

We got beat 6-1 of a Warsaw a team on par with this team
They would have destroyed us a couple of weeks ago.

Progress has been made and above all a result away from home in Europe
1-1 now they have to score at parkhead

Happy with that tonight. We probably should have won it with the chances we had.

Maribor aren't up to much, should see them off at Celtic Park.

Also to come on so late in such a frenetic match is a big ask for someone like Efe. I'll be honest, I saw that coming. Notice how it was his pace that saved his own error.

It's a good point mate but all professional footballers have to deal with being benched at some time.

Efe's been culpable of a few absolute howlers which, if he continues to do so, will really hurt the team. Losing that ball tonight could have undone everything we worked so hard to get.

I've been one of Efe's supporters but he needs to cut out these basic mistakes. At the moment I don't think he deserves a first team jersey if I'm being honest.

When he get's his chance, he has to grab it with both hands, not almost cost us the match.

Yeh his staring position is fine. And he's not expecting Denayer to be caught with his pants down there but he should still anticipate the runner making the run because Lustig can clearly see Denayer is marking someone else so there for he should follow him.
