I understand your point but, apart from CL, this Liverpool game will be a far bigger test than any domestic match this season.

Also, Dublin's only about 2 hours away on a plane so not really out of our way to play this.

Should be good, i'm looking forward to it. Liverpool will play a very strong team but I would really like to see some of Celtic's kids as we've seen nothing of them other than Watt & Forrest for ages.

I reckon it will be a 2-2 draw or Liverpool win.

It's surely less than 2 hours to fly to Dublin!

Anyway, not really looking forward to this game now we know it'll be a reserve side we put out. Shame we don't have McCourt and Killen, they're normally quite good at things like this :smiley-laughing002:

Sturridge apparently will be on the bench as a back up for Aspas, probably get a run out so time in the game.

Glad we are treating this game like the farce that it is.

I see just over a third of TC members view this game as an unwanted distraction.

I think that's getting carried away with semantics- the "friendly" tag and the fact we're one game into the SPL season.

Do you really believe our team's development will be better served by playing Partick Thistle or any other SPL team we play like 4 times a year than a side like Liverpool with far more quality?

Do you think the players would be more up for a crack at a different team, an EPL side, or for more of the same?

The injury risk ahead of a CL qualifier is real, and one we're not taking, but it would be every bit as real and more likely if we were playing a league game this weekend (don't think Lenny would risk anyone in that scenario, either). We're not in "winning or losing the league by 1 point" land anymore.

Perhaps I'm over-thinking a friendly, which no one does, but I see utility in playing different teams, certainly ones that are above rank and file SPL standard.

Lennon already said players are running on empty as we hardly had a break..

If it was a competitive game then of course it would be better served by a step up in class of opposition but the team we're fielding is simply giving fringe, youngsters more experience and a go and getting our big players all back and up too scratch..
    Perfect really..

Even though we have the league wrapped up can you imagine the backlash of having someone like ledley/samaras picking up a bad injury in a 'meaningless friendly' when we have qualifiers around the corner..
Especially after losing 3 of our best players..

    No chance..

I fear us getting humped if we play a second string team with youngsters thrown in, was looking for a competitive game so im abit disappointed with the squad were sending over.

True enough but if anymore got injured tomorrow there would not be a thread up about lennon risking players in a friendly especially with the borat bhoys game coming up
