After watching us against Inter's (almost) first-team, this is the conclusion you've come to? To be fair, I've not seen much of Helsinki, but at home - if paradise is full and the usual European atmosphere commenses then I can see imagine their players rocking and buckling having not experienced much like it before.

At least you'll get your money back if we lost though.

That's laughable. Entitled to have that opinion, but we'd have to perform disgracefully to be killed off by HJK in the first half. They deserve our respect, but they're nothing special (I've watched they're last few games, as well as a few last season), certainly not better than Celtic. We'll see tomorrow night though. Come on you bhoys in green! :celt_2:

Did you know that HJK have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 6 of their 10 away games in the Finnish league? Fantastic Unusual Documentation.

We battered Inter? And we're unlucky not to beat them. I'm sure we can beat these randomers.

On the other hand, I wouldn't call HJK Helsinki 'randomers' or underestimate them.

Tbh they are randomers, in the sense that I've never really heard of them. But I'm not under any circumstances underestimating them.

In all honesty, they're not. Plenty of people know HJK Helsinki. Doesn't mean they are European giants or anything but they're still a well known club. Artmedia Bratislava, Aalborg, Utrecht, Sion, there is no club we can underestimate.

I don't think the are unknowns by other people's standards though. I've certainly always known of them.

Aye I would say they're well known too, they are in Europe every season. As well known as teams like Red Star, Partizan, Dinamo Zagreb, Malmo, AIK, Sparta Prague, Slavia Prague, Rosenborg, Copenhagen etc

we are talking about the game tomorrow you seem to have a problem with someone else's opinions, of how they see the game go, why do i not start on all of you, with your belief of a win. :bbpd:

Surely their appalling away form suggests we have more than a fair chance of winning at Celtic Park, no?

It's fun seeing how many people underestimate HJK. Mikael Lustig's interview hinted the same - he underestimates HJK. But I guess you are entitled to, we can't really afford doing that here in Finland. For us Finns who have been supporters of Finnish football (HJK and National Team) for over 20 years, there's no light at the end of the tunnel. We really can't afford to become too optimistic. It somehow is typical for us to perform way under our abilities.

This is going to be some more drunken banter, but bare with me. I think it will be an interesting read. So here we go.

Think of the players the Finnish national team has had the last 10-20 years. Superstars like Jari Litmanen, Sami Hyypiä. Other good players in European standards, many have been regular starting 11 players in the Premier League, for example: Teemu Tainio, Riku Riihilahti, Mikael Forssell, Jonathan Johansson.. + many others playing in the major leagues in Europe.
But, we havn't made it to the European Champs or to the WC. There have been much worse teams there, Finland was definately a good, solid side. You can't even blame the management, it has been good too. It's just Finnish nature. We do good, but completely freeze when it comes to the big games. For example, we were 1 point away from qualifying into the EC 2008, in those qualifiers we lost for example against Azerbaidjan.. That can't happen. But in Finland, it does.

And take last years HJK. A really, really good team even in european standards. 2-0 against Schalke at home, 1-1 after 45 minutes away. But then a complete failure and freeze in the second half which lead to a horrible 6-1 loss. Somehow we just love to fail when it really matters.

So I really don't want to get my hopes up before the game. If we win, I'll be deliriously happy of course. But if we don't, well, it's just another normal day as a Finnish supporter. Our motto has become : Maybe next year?

But I hope the best! Would be refreshing to see us in a group stage for once. Only once has it happened, that was HJK in 1998.

If nothing else, it will be really cool to meet you. Hopefully we see many of you TalkCeltic folks at Sonera Stadium next week!

    Thanks.

I'm not and the vast majority of Celtic fans certainly do not underestimate, or misunderestimate as George W Bush one said, your club.

Out of curiosity, what is your thoughts on your away record in the Veikkausliiga of P10 W3 D1 L6 Pts 10/30 ?
