Will need a * of a lot of luck to win this. They have really physical defenders and one of the best attacking lines in the world. Lots has to go right for it not to be a mauling. Our advantage isn't size but ferocious pace upfront and goals from around the pitch... is it enough to win a match against them? Not so sure ...so I'm firmly in the camp of keep the tie alive for next leg. Win lose or draw.

Nobody is expecting us to prevail, which is fair enough.

All I want to see is a great performance, make it competitive and don't give away the silly, early goals we've been guilty of in the past.

Even if we go out over the 2 legs, if we make it competitive, show what we can do and give it our best, I'll be happy.

I am not anticipating us being competitive tonight. I love optimism but I can't do it to myself, I'm braced for a hiding.

For me Maeda has got to play through the middle, if Idah starts then it's game over I think.

I like Idah as well but it's not the game for him, Upamecano and Kim will swallow him up and he poses no threat in behind. Idah does hold the ball up and link well but I can't see it happening against these two as both of them are really aggressive and press really well, they'll be all over him and he probably won't get a sniff of the ball.

So I don't think getting it to Idah and then Idah trying to play in the wide guys to run in behind will work.

Be better for Maeda just to be nowhere near their defenders, peeling off deeper or wide and then running in behind himself.

I agree but I think we'll see this as the game goes on and Idah is ineffective against them.

I could be wrong though and Idah plays a blinder. He should be full of confidence.

Especially against us at our best.
If we play at our worst though...

Idah will play. Jota isn’t fully fit, he will be massive off the bench.

I agree though, can’t see him having an impact this game. Hope I’m wrong though.

Too much confidence around this for me , I’m praying for a narrow win but fearing the worst

    Schmeichel
    AJ CCV Trusty Taylor
    McGregor Engels
    Hatate
    Kuhn Idah Maeda

Jota, Bernardo, and Schlupp off the bench. 2-1 if I’m being optimistic.

Look at the goals they concede though.

Almost every goal they concede is either a counter attack or teams just batter the ball over the top of their defence and someone runs in clear to finish.

Barcelona scored 3 long ball goals against them, Feyenoord opened the scoring the same way where they guy who got the ball punted to him ran in himself and scored from 30 yards outside the box.

Idah is never going to do that but Maeda could.

Just think Idah has been rested for this game, Jota not fully up to speed yet either..

    I wouldn't be against it, just don't think that's what he'll do..

He was but that was before we were sure Maeda could play.

We probably thought Idah would need to play 90 minutes.

Jota is a quality passer and he can also beat a man or two and then put a ball in behind i'd say and Maeda is who we want running in behind.

I think we aren't going to be able to do much to stop them attacking us well but we need to have our best threats of a goal playing for us. Is Maeda going to help get Idah in behind them, not really. Maeda could get in down the wing but the smarter thinking to me is Jota and Kuhn skipping away from a man or two and clipping balls into Maeda either over the top or down the sides.

We don't want to pass our way out from the back and hold the ball and get into Bayerns half and pin them in like we are playing Motherwell.

We just want to make a bit of room to ping it over the top of them and get in behind. Maybe at times McGregor, Engels or Hatate will be doing it to Kuhn or Jota out wide but Jota or Kuhn doing it to Maeda is probably the easiest route to chances. Jota and Kuhn both having the passing ability to send Maeda in but also can dribble past guys to open up the space to pass it in the first place which we need as well, Maeda if he's wide and deep won't really give us that. Maeda tends to slow the game and pass a ball back, where if both our wide men can get in behind them and a chance to pass a ball then it'll be better.

Unfortunately think we'll continue to make lots of square passes and pass it out from the back in a slow build up. I don't think Rodgers knows any other way. We just have to hope our passing is better and that we hit them on the break a few times - which is the only time we get the ball forward a bit quicker.
I hope he surprises me and changes things a bit.
