I don't know if this is of interest to anyone...
Thanks to some dreadful showings from Scottish clubs in the last few years, our League is currently ranked 24th in Europe - behind the likes of Cyprus, Austria, Israel, Romania, Poland, Belarus, Croatia and Sweden.
According to the UEFA website, Celtic are ranked 62/450. That still leaves us behind the likes of Metalist Kharkiv, FC Twente, Copenhagen, Fulham, Hannover and BATE.
The rating would have been a lot worse, had it not been for our progression through the groups last year. Last season saw us ranked the 25th best team in Europe (for co-efficient points). Though we still fell behind Lazio, Rubin Kazan, Tottenham, Newcastle & Basel.
Kinda shows how damaging a couple of crap years can be for a club. Hopefully we're heading in the right direction now.

It shows how good having a highly ranked National team/league helps - just under half of Newcastle's point come from the success of England and the Premier league.

But Uefa should scrap it - the mechanism allows the 'bigger league' clubs to get in the later stages easily and earn more cash. -
That's exactly why it won't be scrapped unfortunately.
UEFA and FIFA are corrupt and nothing but bad for our game. -

The thing that annoys me most is the fact that Europa League clubs get the same points for a win as you do in the Champions League

Not correctly though, EL teams still get a big advantage in the co-efficient. -

Agreed the points should be way higher for CL games than Europa, how we are rated that far down after getting to the last 16 last season I don't know to be honest, it's a bit of a joke. The point scoring should be looked at a think mate. -
20 clubs won themselves more co-efficient points than us last season. I think that's fair enough.

Lets suppose we the scottish clubs do really well and gather a lot of coefficient points , won't that move us up significantly like 14th or 13th place or something.

No it shouldn't. The clubs are rated on their performances over the last 5 seasons. We have been pish for 4 out of 5 of those seasons. We deserve to be where we are. You don't get ranked up because you have had one good season. You need to achieve consistency to move up the rankings.

Like I just said you are rated over the course of five years. One good season won't see us move up all that much. You need to achieve consistency to make significant progress up the rankings.

Teams change massively in 5 years how you can rate a team just now on a team 5 years ago is beyond me. These ranking are to get the best teams at the moment to the top of the seedings to make the draws fairer. It should be 2 maybe 3 years at a push.Last edited by a moderator: Jul 19, 2013 -

I think the jews are in european comps for security reasons (the whole of asia hates them). Half of Kahz is west of the ural mountains and everwhere west of them mountains is europe.

Being an old fashioned *, I wish all the champions of every league in Europe would go into a hat and get drawn against each other on a two legged knockout basis.
