Wasn't bernabei just in door in January of that year?

People were going about kwon as rodri or something along those lines ffs.

If engels isn't better than oriley then it's already a bad start. You need Valle to oust Taylor, * the point I don't know. You need trusty to be 1st team.

Everyone seems to be surmising on here.

Did sinisalo not get blamed for goals too? And he's just in the door. But he's an upgrade. Schmeichel just in door but he's an upgrade but that can change in an instant, witnessed it too many times with gks on here. I'm a big gk fan BTW so I try to be a little fair minded in that instance.

I know it was a bit of a tenuous rumour, and the guy probably isn’t in their plans regardless, but I do wonder if Chelsea signing Sancho makes the Ǎngelo Gabriel loan more likely?

That’s another guy on an already bloated wage bill, and you would imagine they would want to make any savings they can.

Pure copium, but it’s a nice thought.

I think this is it. Club and I assume Brendan hasn't given up on one of Yang or Palma being valuable players

Still have a feeling we’ll get a surprise, maybe on loan.

Thing that's weird about the mccowan signing is if we were actually bidding for Bogusz at £8m something must have went quite wrong along the way for us to end up with McCowan. No disrespect to him as I rate him but he'd definitely not even be 2nd or even 3rd choice imo.

Jusr seems like a big jump to potentially having been prepared to spend another £8m+.

I'd add Idah to all those good points, mate. I know he was here last year; but we stupidly had no option to buy. That means that as far as negotiations were concerned, it was the same amount of work and difficulty as any other signing.

Mental with Yang though. He's nowhere near it..

Palma does have the quality....just something missing with him and bit one paced..

You need to save a new dynamite American fast winger for the Jan window to freshing things up for our patchy part of the season though.

Aye Yang is a good dribbler but he has no end product at all, would be surprised if he had a great season

To be honest, they all will.

Maeda is a loveable * and worth his weight in gold but there are definite questions about his end product and technique at the highest level. We need more G+A from him.

Kuhn has started this season very well, but he's untested in Europe and was poor last year. I'm hoping he'll grow but he's by no means a sure thing, yet.

Forrest, in the words of mighty BR is probably our best winger. However, it's unrealistic to think he'll be tearing it up in the CL at his age. He'll play a part and brings experience but I'm not expecting the Forrest of 2017 to return.

Yang looks nowhere near ready still. Might offer us an outlet to get up the pitch and stretch the game but has absolutely no end product.

So yeah, we badly needed another winger..

Aye mate, said a few times securing Idah and Bernardo on permanent deals, shouldn't be discounted just because they were here last year.

You'd imagine it'll be addressed in January. Not too late to do so then.

    Maybe for Europe mind.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but it's never ever happening..

We needed that other extra winger for me..

    Yang as you've said
    Palma hot and cold
    Forrest getting on
Kuhn on form but remains to be seen if he can maintain it
Maeda could be used here and there up top if need be

    We're light in my opinion..

Pity we couldn't have springed into life a bit longer than a week before the deadline.

    Agreed.

A lot of the excuses all summer was the euros being on, waiting for domino effects and big clubs doing their business. Or waiting for players to decide if they wanted to come here or not.

I don't think there is really any, bar Kasper, that would fall under any of those excuses for me.

What excuse the board will tell themselves (and maybe leak to us) is anyone guess. But on the face of it, quite literally most of our signings could have all been done before the season kicked off.

Really surprised we’ve not brought another winger in. Thought a loan deal would appear from nowhere.

Mate, we've broken our transfer record on a kid who Rodgers actively pushed for and who's already got Bundesliga experience at the age of 20. That's nothing like Bernabei or Kwon, mate.

And no, he won't be as good as O'Riley this season, because we can't get afford to buy anyone as good as 2024 O'Riley. We will need to develop him to that standard over the course of the season. Really, we needed to buy the equivalent of 2022 O'Riley last summer. Not doing that was a bad error; but it's last summer's error not this summer's. From where we were this June, the Engels deal is absolutely about the best kind of signing we could realistically have asked for.
