Looking at the transfer threads we have atm I'd rather keep the deadwood.

We need to make our moves early to prevent being exploited in an 11th hour scramble

Scary thought, but after the summer window, it’s no even something you can laugh about.

Asked what the club’s fans might expect now that the transfer market is open for business Rodgers replied: “I don’t know, I don’t know. I’ll tell you once they’re announced, once they’re in. I’m relaxed but focused. I want quality. And that’s what we need to improve.”

Rodgers is likely to press ahead with his recruitment plans even though he has been boosted by yesterday’s news of Kyogo’s international snub. And the Parkhead boss - who takes his side to face St Mirren in Paisley on Tuesday afternoon - remains philosophical about the impending loss of four of his players.

He said: “It’s like the Africa Cup of Nations - it’s part of the deal. If you have a number of Asian players in your squad you know this might happen so it’s about dealing with it. It’s not a surprise. It’s something you have to plan forward for and it was one of the first things we spoke about coming in here.

“It’s not all about the present, it’s about looking forward to each window. We have that in hand and we know what our ideas are for that.”

Brendan Rodgers insists he’s focused on recruiting more quality to his Celtic squad this month despite the boost of keeping Kyogo Furuhashi on home soil.

Kyogo was a shock omission when Japan boss Hajime Moriyasu named his squad for the Asia Cup - a decision which means the little talisman will be free to spearhead Rodgers’ attack when the domestic season resumes at the end of this month. Compatriots Reo Hetate and Daizen Maeda have been drafted up for the competition which runs for a month from January 14.

To add to Rodgers’ woes, South Korea have also called up Oh Hyeon-gyu and Yang Hyun-jun, further depleting his attacking options going into the New Year. But Rodgers says he remains relaxed about the situation as he prepares to add to his squad in the January sales.

Asked what the club’s fans might expect now that the transfer market is open for business Rodgers replied: “I don’t know, I don’t know. I’ll tell you once they’re announced, once they’re in. I’m relaxed but focused. I want quality. And that’s what we need to improve.”

Meanwhile, several Hoops fringe men will be allowed to leave in the coming weeks.

Nat Phillips has already returned to Liverpool after an unsuccessful loan, while Yuki Kobayashi is expected to go back to Japan. Yosuke Ideguchi is expected to join J.League champions Vissel Kobe in the coming weeks.

Argentine left-back Alexandro Bernabei is also attracting interest from Europe and his homeland.

Aussie winger Marco Tilio is wanted back on loan by former club Melbourne City after failing to make an impact.

And £3m summer signing Gustaf Lagerbielke looked set to be allowed to leave permanently or on loan after finding himself frozen out.

But fresh injuries to Cameron Carter-Vickers and Stephen Welsh could yet see the Swede win a reprieve, depending on the timescale for their return.

Agreed that a new winger is required but right back looked more of a concern than left back tbh.

To win the league with a bit more comfort, we only really need a keeper and left back.

Hart is well past it, anytime a team have a set piece, I feel they’re going to score.

Taylor has been solid, but he just doesn’t suit Rodger’s style of play and we need a left back that does.

Other than that, maybe a right winger and striker but they can wait until the summer.

I’m less concerned about signings for the players away because of Kyogo not getting a call up.

Johnston was poor bar one good run forward he made, but left back is absolutely the priority. We're an injury to Taylor away from relying on Bernabei at left back. I also want a new goalie but think we'll have to wait until summer for that.

A big if. Left back is still the highest priority for me.

for me is striker. * forbid if anything were to happen Kyogo tonight and also must remember he is nursing a shoulder issue.
Right now, I would bring in both Shankland and the Aberdeen guy, just to get us over the line.
And we should easily be able to offload one in the summer.
I feel BR will be content to bungle along with Joe between the sticks till end of season, always high risk to change keeper mid season.
We do have Abada coming back on the right wing, so maybe thats not a priority.
Left back for sure, been simmering since KT left, so lets spend the money and sort it out, hearing that boy fae Ipswich being linked, 4M apparently.
Biggest fear for midfield is Reo breaking down while in int duty. Bernardo is starting to fill that void but Turnbull not the answer. I would expect a loan deal here.
