Brendan Rodgers has hinted Celtic will look to bring in "genuine quality" in the January transfer window.

The manager noted previous business done across his career at the Hoops as well as other clubs as a boss and insists there are deals to be done that can add star power to his ranks. He has been focused this season so far developing younger, perhaps more raw talent to bring them into his first-team and that's why he knows the next window must be used to add experience and players who are ready to make direct impact for the club now. The likes of Marco Tilio, Yang, Odin Holm and Luis Palma are all relatively new to this level of competition.

Rodger’s will be given a decent cash pot to bring in new recruits but he won't rush. Though he understands there will be positions needing filled when January rolls around.

I’ve done business in January before that has been really, really good. It is just the availability, really," Rodgers revealed. "There is a market out there to bring in good players but it’s just getting the right ones.

Listen, we have enough – what I would say – development players. I think it is clear. And I love that, it is what I have done all my life is work with those players. But you certainly need ones who can come in, so it is genuine quality we hope we can bring in across the coming windows.

Think a few of the summer signings will be shipped out. Phillips sent back to Liverpool too

We need it, especially if we lose a few to the Asian cup.

You don’t get genuine quality in January.

I know it’s easier said than done but I am glad that he’s let it be known that he doesn’t want anymore development signings and that he wants genuine quality. Hopefully he is backed and can bring in the players he wants.
Be nice to get a few out on loan and to get rid of some deadwood aswell

    You don’t really.

You either have to be a top team in a top league or overpay.

Which we quite rightly won’t do.

A quality right winger and left winger are absolutely essential.

Players who can make things happen against packed defences and have the ability to commit opponents.

We’ve managed to get to the point where having an amazing work ethic is enough to be able to get a start every week on on the wing for Celtic.

A reasonably physical and mobile defensive midfielder has been needed for about six years now, so that wouldn’t go a miss either.

Nor would a left back, goalkeeper, or an alternative option up front.

It’s not going to happen though when you’ve already got a squad of 30 players, about half of whom are nowhere near good enough to start for us.

Whether it be in January or next summer we need the following positions addressed ASAP:

    Goalkeeper - Lunin? Kelleher?
LB - New starting LB needed, Taylor fine as a back up, Bernebei shipped out.
ST - New back up striker as it looks like Oh is not the answer.

Anyone dreaming of a dynamic CM similar to Hatate or a left sided version of CCV coming in January needs their head read. As it stands, our midfield 3 is locked in when fully fit, with Bernado, Turnbull, Iwata and Holm to choose from after that. Our two centre backs are picked between CCV, Scales (a revelation), Nawrocki, Gus and Welsh. Philips will return to Liverpool.

I don't understand how people can be so optimistic...AGAIN.

The last window was a complete * show.

The board has already been flapping about how much they've spent, and Rodgers comments, to me at least, sound defeatest. Lots of "buts" and pluralising the word "window", ie. This is gonna take a while.

We should be well down the * line with positions that need upgrading, LB for instance.

I know it's early doors to be a "panty wetter", but a clear * message needs sent to this board.

Time to shine GB. Remind them who keeps the lights on at CP.

Spoke about it before in the other * show of a thread.

Japan is probably your only option because the season is over.

Still, nobody really expected O’Riley to be as good as he is.

Bringing in quality isn’t bringing in someone with potential like O’Riley and Hatate were. They weren’t so much projects but they weren’t known quantities either.

We don’t have the capacity for another left winger. Palma looks the real deal. A “quality” winger isn’t going to come in and share game time in the SPFL.

It would be great to have quality options in every position but it won’t happen, never has.

I get your point but O’Riley was very much a signing for now when we got him. We nabbed him for £1.5m and their fans and a few journalists were all saying it was a massive bargain and he was easily worth 5-10 times that.

O'Riley was tearing up league 1 and went straight in the team, Hatate had just won his 2nd J League. Neither were these unknowns you claim them to be.
You may pay a premium in January but if they improve your team there and then getting you the league it's still value for money.

Always players that are sitting on the bench as well. Even if we could get one or two six month loans to do us until the summer window.

We definitely need more quality for the bench. Guys that can come on and turn the game when we’re struggling like we needed on Saturday.

sadly that's true. We should be looking for better than him though.
