I think we'll need to clear some of the deadwood before buying, unfortunately.

Tbh it doesn't matter. They need cleared anyway and we have the money to have a huge squad for a short period of time.

Just get the players we need in, you *.

I would be prepared to be underwhelmed with incomings and outgoings this summer. We just don't have the model, personel to be proactive to do this.

Some players we just have to take a hit on. McCarthy and Shaw instantly spring to mind. Need punted.

Ange was the anomaly in terms of transfers. We've slipped back to our ol ways coincidentally with an ol face in as chairmen.

We seem to only ever do great in the transfer window after we lose the league. Then we suddenly have a clear out and bring in quality players. It makes no sense why we don't do it every year and not when we lose.. except for the fact lawell wants to keep us close to them to try sell the game.

I'm trying to not go down that rabbit hole. But looking back to the beginning of the DD reign and PL starting, to now. The evidence of our nepotism, parochial ways is always there. Like I said. It was different under Ange. No Peter present.

DD gets his man in (twice) paying millions. But won't pay a fraction of that to modernise the set up and structure. We scrape by. Richest we've ever been by some * distance may I add since through Covid and a cost of living crisis.

I always come in with hope at the start of each window. But the last 2 windows have finally cleared the vision for me. Domestically (by a baw hair) is the level.

People will say wait, window hasn't opened yet which is true. But, 18 of the 20 years of this rule and strategy, with no.head of recruitment or scouting, its hard to see this kicking on we all want and need to happen.

Edit: I always retain that hope that I'm wrong and that the club have 4/5 players, good ones ready to go. AND, I'll still scan the rumours section every 30mins every day to see who's local taxi driver, dog sitting, painters partners, 3rd cousin twice removed, pals whatsapp saying Stephen Appiah was spotted in Argyle Street in that hope!!

It's a real shame that the fans end up feeling this way.

As you say, history tells us this window isn't going the way we deserve it to.

Id honestly take an American owner who's got a hand in American sports. A red bull type. Anything that would at least bring in a modern approach to football overall. For structure, scouting, coaching etc.

A change of ownership, leadership and direction is needed. That can be done without ruining the club financially and maintaining our success core values.

    Sadly won't happen.

We will get business done. Window isn't even technically open yet.

People will no doubt panic seeing the Huns making signings but if the ones they're bringing in so far are intended to be first team players I don't think we have much to worry about.

My biggest concern is what our approach to transfers will be. Like a broken record here but to still not have an update regarding head of recruitment etc is bewildering. Where will the players being looked at have been recommended from etc.

As a club we are still being ran like an * side at times. Zero communication to the fanbase either.

Question needs to be put in a press conference. Do we not do the fan media ones anymore?

The two players they've signed are meant to be rotten as well, and that Cordoba looked like a big lump.

Just need to focus on ourselves.

Gettin obvious they aren't bothering with that structure and gonna let Rodgers do his thing.

Call me pessimistic, they're gonna try hand him to dry.
Either he does his own signings and they flop, lawwell will do the "well it's not our fault"
They do well, lawwell will take credit and see it as the right choice to cheap out in not building the correct structure.

A nice communication basically telling the fans would be nice. But to admit not to being arsed with the appointment of a head of recruitment, is admitting too much that they aren't a modern and progressive club.

See the first two paragraphs I completely agree with. We don’t have the model or personnel to do this well.

See on the third I think Ange’s second season windows are probably closer to what we could have expected if he had stuck around. Even the summer last year a lot of that would have been with Mark Lawwell working with Ange.

Ange’s first window was a classic example of a club working in an absolutely backs against the wall chaos environment. It is surprising what can be achieved in a business when faced with this sort of scenario. Everyone there works that bit harder and longer, things that would normally be red tape or over comfort lines crossed (e.g. signing older players like Juranovic and Giakoumakis) and even then we had the good fortune of the two best signings being late loan deals that happened to come up when other targets in Mitoma and Itakura were unattainable, in CCV and Jota.

The second window with the triple signing of Maeda, Hatate and Ideguchi were guys Ange would have wanted in the summer but couldn’t get them mid season in Japan. O’Riley was a great bit of scouting when the Riley McCree deal fell through.

After that signings were more misses, Bernabei has been a terrible buy, Mooy worked out well in the end, Jenz done ok but was someone we had scouted before, Haksabanovic started well but faded, Abildgaard a last ditch panic signing when we didn’t get who we actually wanted. The January was pretty indifferent except Alastair Johnston who was probably the only one that Ange wouldn’t have been involved in identifying.

To me the 2021 summer window in particular just happened to be a very fortunate one and until we get our house in order behind the scenes we will probably continue to have that sort of 1 in 3/4 players being decent; with the odd window like last summer where it’s a disaster and the same at the other extreme like summer 2021.

Lawwell came out in January and basically apologised for the transfer window.

Surely nowhere to hide for anyone this time. You'd think anyway.

You'd think, and maybe I'm far to pessimistic, paranoid, crabbit old *, but they'll find a way.

Already can see online the happy clappers getting the excuses in already.

"Panty wetters" because the window isn't open - it is too early to judge the window, but never too early to judge the intentions of those in charge. Things feel too much like before.

"It's difficult to do deals with the euros on"
    Or
"Need to wait til after the euros" as if we are waiting for some players to excell and go elsewhere.
Here's a * thought, sign them before they do!

I do think we will need a few to go before people start coming in. We have far too many people on long term deals such as Yang (4 years), Tilio (4 years), Lagerbielke (4 years), Nawrocki (4 years), Haksabanovic (3 years), Oh (3 years), Kwon (4 years), Bernabei (3 years), Siegrist (2 years) and I'm sure there are others. These 5 year contracts are going to harm us in the long run. I get the idea of amortisation and you don't want to feel forced to sell after 2 years but it has just meant we've been tied down to *. Offer a 4 year with an option.

Aye you only need to look at the player threads on here as a reminder of how much * we still have on the books.

All those wages add up as well.

I know it's early days but I can't help but feel pessimistic already, mainly because there's still no indication about who's handling the recruitment and the players we've been linked with so far have been very underwhelming.

I'm not panicking yet though. Let's see where we are after the Euros. To be honest, I'm not sure if I'm really even that bothered anymore. Better to go in with extremely low expectations and be pleasantly surprised if we actually manage to sign a few decent names that strengthen the first 11.

I’d like to think by the end of next week we’ll have one signed or at least almost signed.

That’ll be almost July and not long before the squad is back training. Again, Rodgers will have known for months the positions he needs strengthened.

    No excuse to * about.

Not having a new no1 by the time we are back training would have me worrying. Especially knowing for almost 7 months that your current one was offski.

It's almost like we don't plan for the future. Almost like we're very reactive and not proactive at all.

    Almost.
