He's not scouting for Celtic, either. He's the head of recruitment. He's more likely to be looking at budgets and talking with scouts/agents/teams than look at top level players scouts present him.

If you don't think teams like Girona, Palermo, Yokohama, Melbourne City and New York City are scouting players to be first team ready, what do you think their primary focus is? It's all well and good saying they're part of a conveyor belt which is built to make money but the simple fact is, you only make money when these teams have been successful, which requires good scouting of players/staff/management. I also think it's a lack of respect to teams like Girona, Palermo and Yokohama who have excellent facilities and excellent support. Even New York City are now a very well established team in the MLS. MLS cup champions a season or two ago under Ronny, ironically enough. Melbourne City have practically dominated in the Aussie league for the last few years.

The wider point is that he would have had access to multiple different scouts and agents, in a variety of different countries where it should have made this appointment far more successful than it currently is. I'm not entirely sure Mark Lawwell is the problem. I think it's more the scouting and the lack of resources we are willing to throw at individual players that are the biggest concern, here.

I’m not going to lie i was happy with Mark Lawwell being appointed our head of scouting & recruitment based on the fact he worked at one of the worlds largest football groups for almost 10 years. On paper he would of been the best man for the job.

Unfortunately our recruitment since has been dogshit, Probably the worst i can remember it being in a very long time.

CFG aren't concerned with success of individual clubs, and that's the problem. The players in CFG just get rolled around on loans, and there is no continuity, while teams get offered players that aren't the most suitable for them. If Mark Lawwell isn't a scout, then how do we know he can spot a player? With Rodgers being at the helm, this is a crucial skill for the chief scout.

He's not the Chief Scout. That's Joe Dudgeon.

As a person in a more advanced role within a company, I can tell you that the higher up the pole you go, the less likely you are to be involved in the day to day aspects of things. Mark Lawwell won't be scouting anyone. He will be dealing with other things, within recruitment. I'm the head of energy for a plastic film factory... absolutely no idea about energy in general. I'm a chemical engineer. I leave the actual work to the guys on the tools, the mechanical fitters and the Control technicians. My job? Look at budgets, move money around, prioritise workloads, prioritise job cards. Make sure the guys have everything they need PPE, Tools, Equipment etc. I don't even sign their Permits to Work because I'm not involved with the job, even though they're working on the gas pipelines and I'm head of energy.

Mark Lawwell will be getting pulled from everywhere. Tea ladies in the canteen asking for more money for paper towels to the Chief Scout wanting a discussion about a player who's been flagged as available by one of the scouts and everything in between. Head of recruitment and scouting won't just be about getting players in, it's a whole host of things within the club.

South east London is an area that produces loads of good young players that often get snapped up by Liverpool and Man U..Millwall have been moaning about this for years...it's an area we should keep an eye on..Having said that...we also need a system where we can bring youth players through to the first team as that link seems broken.

Fair enough. But then, we have to ask ourselves- is Joe Dudgeon doing a good job? I've no idea if Mark Lawwell had anything to do with him being hired. There's actually a sports director I think we should hire, since he's doing a cracking job at bringing good players for small money. Maybe our January target should be him first- Mindaugas Nikoličius of Hajduk Split.

If we got big money I'd take it, get Jota back and sign big Sydney.

No selling any of our good players until summer....otherwise that's just dumb...there's £50m up for grabs this year..which can sit in the bank with the other £72.4m to keep it snuggly

Oh I totally agree Hammy. There's several players that we need to punt before they two

If the quoted figures are true for MOR, that’s close to the £50m nearly made and Europa makes up the rest. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s good enough for the board!

For me, the key is concentration of resources. Yes, we'd all love 4-5 positions at once. But we really need to learn how to pick just 2 and splash all the cash on two expensive signings. The board would get a stroke from having to authorize high-wage signings, so let's force them to do it by booing their heads off the pitch.

I remember reading an article on Lawwell at the time we appointed him to this role, the above is exactly what he did at CFG to my understanding.

He essentially headed up the organisation and functioning of a scouting network for CFG that was designed to service several of their clubs including New York Ciry, Yokohama, Melbourne and a couple of others if I remember correctly.

What would that mean? Well insuring the team had everything they need, all roles were filled probably from data analysis through to actual scouts. Managing a budget for this scouting network and creating a process to get the information to people who would actually make decisions on who to sign e.g Directors of Football, Head coaches, Managers depending on the structure at the club.

In addition, he will get inundated from agents about get one of your team along to see my player x and will likely discuss with his head scouts which of these he thinks is worth following up or more than likely putting the head scout in touch with the agent.

Basically his job will be to put the people and process in place to identify and sign new players, not choose who we sign.

Lee Congerton was brutal and then Rodgers took him with him.

I was actually in favour of bringing John Park back before he sold his soul but hes been brutal as well.

27 pages and we’ve got over a week until the window opens. Sadly I know how the window ends… same as always, major disappointment with not enough investment in 1st team ready players.

Ive no love for the EPL, but have been following Spurs progress as it's important for me that Ange rams all the critics pish back down their throat.

By extension, I'm getting alerts about Spurs transfer dealings.

By my count, they're solidly linked with 5 players. All 5 are positions Spurs desperately need.

    * have we been linked with so far? 4 players from the summer that we didn't sign (2 forwards, 2 keepers), recycled by the rags who are pushing clickbait, and a LB who seems like another massive project punt.

Oh, and a spl duffer with zero mobility but scores.

Bite the pillow bhoys and Ghirls.

    Pete's coming in dry.
