We have a few young guys like this already here. The italian striker for one.
We'd not see or hear of much for at least two or three years after signing them, but it's the chance to unearth some of europe's next young talents.

Once these sort of players make a name for their self we'll not be able to afford them. Good to attempt and get them young.

    Have to laugh...

Two young unknowns from Czech Rep are described as wonderkids and most people on here start * themselves with excitement.

Two young Irish players being spoken about in other threads on this forum and they're up in arms asking what the * is the club up to.

Ireland has produced many high quality players over the years and I would expect a better attiute from celtic fans towards irish players given the clubs history. Ironically it appears to be irish based fans that are most critical. I doubt if many of them have seen any of the irish players in question in action in their local park.

We've already got the best under-19 squad in Scotland, I'd rather hear about a left back at the moment. But I hope we get them just to rub it in the face of Milan.

I'm sure we paid over £2 million for Petrov when we signed him.

Agreed, AC Milan haven't been to see McGinn but Frank Arnesen the Chelsea scout has been over to see him on numerous occasion this year.

It's because we're almost expected to be picking up the best of talent from Scotland and Ireland.

The difference here is that in recent years Eastern Europe has proven to be a real hotbed for cheap and big talent so with names like Milan being thrown in of course people are gonig to get excited.

I take your point but there seems to be an attitude of...if no club has spotted them when they were 14 and brought them in to an academy...then they must be crap.

Some players blossom late, some players are not allowed to go across the water at that age by their parents. In McGinn's case he was a top class Gaelic footballer and it was only in last few years when the Tyrone manager told him to make his mind up (as there was no place in his team for someone who couldn't give 100% to gaelic football). He made that choice and has been magnificent for Derry City this year.

Was reading online earlier that the Czech's can sign the kids from the age of 6 and train them up. Lukas Marecek at Brno is a good example.

Aye your right but I think late blossomers are quite rare. The only few I know off the top of my head are Drogba and Prso, both are * and one "blossomed" into a * player :86:

Still with my management style (lol) I agree with Arsene Wenger - If you haven't got the technical ability by 15, the physical ability by 17 and the tactical/mental ability by 19 then you're never going to make it at the top level....

Good player but is he still playing at right back? It would kill off Caddis with the form Hinkel has been showing.

Yeah i think he does, although like cauldwell he is very versatile, he can play rb lb cd and cdm but i have also seen him play rcm.. he is very talented and as far as im aware he could do the left back job no problem... i like him for so many reasons with his top attribute being he is a work horse so no matter wer he plays he will give 110%

He's also a stalwart in my fm09 team lol :50:

You could kind of put Zidane in that category.

Hartley, Robson, Billy Dodds, Gareth Barry, Tony Cascarino...okay, i'm grasping at straws here.

Sometime I think people around here get more excited at the prospect of transfer targets failing than anything else.
