You were doing well up until the last point of no.4, and the entire point no.5.

that is why i want feedback... penalties could be negotiated to something more realistic, but they do need to be serious in order to deter.. as a relative outsider, i do not have the perspective of most of you. I do believe that the club is concerned about negative image of sectarianism.. and that subject is going unspoken.. My observation is that sectarian chanting is less than 1% of cheers, etc.. and the section can only do so much... I just think sectarian chanting should be reserved for the rebel band gigs and shouldn't be a part of CP.. and GB should help here.. nothing wrong with anti-Ranger chants, etc., but there is a line that we all know that shouldn't be crossed...

I don't know where to begin, you've actually frightened me a bit with this post. One thing's for sure: we'd have the lamest, most pathetic and embarrassing ultras of any club in any sport anywhere in the world.

if you want legitimacy and funding opportunities, then you have to compromise some aspects of your wants. What is so obscene about the above? ending sectarian chants? or charitable commitment to keep branding rights?

I'd be delighted if you could explain to us all what sectarian chants you're including in your statement?

The GB are self-funding. They are also non-sectarian. I know as well as you that there are some (thankfully now vanishingly rare) sectarian songs (like that one to the tune of "she'll be coming round the mountain") that have been sung by Celtic fans over the years; none of them are part of the Green Brigade's repertoire.

Edit: also they could hardly remain self-funding if they gifted the club the rights to their brand! You're essentially proposing that they gift the club their source of income (a brand that is built on their own hard work!) and allow the club to give some of that income back to them in exchange for giving up all control to the board. The more I think about it, the crazier it seems!

I agree. Definition of what constitutes "sectarian" chants is important and is a grey area. There is nothing wrong with ribbing rivalry clubs, etc... I think pro IRA chants and anti poppy banners would qualify..

the sectarian thing was never a Celtic problem, hence why the g'ment introduced "offensive".

Random, i agree that the GB shouldn't be held accountable for sectarian chants that are legacy and not instigated by GB. If GB is truly anti-sectarian, then they should have no issue with the clause to limit sectarian chanting. And re funding, I observe that GB is sefl funded, but my proposal offers the opportunity for them to gain additional funding (via excess rev collection from premium seating, brand recognition from being recognized whilst keeping branding rights, and future growth opportunities to expand into adjacent sections)...

Do you know what sectarian means, mate? Take the poppy banner: is protest against a celebration of imperial slaughter now classed as sectarianism?

tony, my perspective is that the Celtic FC club does not want "pro IRA chants and anti poppy banners"... recall the backlash and call for a discussion by Neil Lennon over past few years... I know that some may feel that via banners and chants that some Celtic supporters should be allowed the right to free speech during matches, but I think it is a reasonable request for the GB section to do whatever the GB can to eliminate or limit these messages.. not that GB should police the reactions/cheers from all fans.... just to agree to do what they can to minimize, etc. The anti-poppy banner did not sit well with Celtic FC...

Basically anything controversial Celtic fans sing is banded under "sectarian" these days, it's shocking :38:

jason, i actually agree with you. you have the right to express whatever political stance you have and to support the charity of your choice. I am just proposing concessions in order to keep the GB intact in one section and to be given legitimacy...

Just because Celtic don't want certain aspects of something doesn't necessarily become accountable under "sectarianism".

Pro IRA? The GB have so far removed all chanting of IRA from their songs, although (and quite rightfully) will NOT cease to sing songs in regards to IRA of political expression of Irish rebellion nor it's history.
