Booing the silence plays right into the Huns hands , they absolutely thrive on anything that puts us in the spotlight in a negative way.

If you disagree with the act, why not stay away until it's over...the empty seats show your stance in a respectable manner .

I totally understand why people dislike remembrance day (it's became a joke ) and society now uses it to point the finger at those who dare to take a stand against.

    I wouldn't give them the satisfaction , we've always said we're better than them...show it .

Well, your last 3 posts don't seem to address anything I have actually been saying, so we can at least agree on the conversation apparently being at an end for now.

I actually agree with you on a personal level: I'm 46 now and I personally don't think booing achieves anything positive and I'm more and more aware of the horrible suffering of people on all sides in these things and understand better the value of rituals. I would no longer choose to boo myself; but I do think that anyone who wants to boo something that is essentially being imposed on them has a right to do so.

It's just not right to try to coerce them into not booing, firstly because I might be wrong but more importantly because who TF am I to tell them they shouldn't protest by booing? It also doesn't seem fair to ask anyone who doesn't agree with the silence to wait outside like second-class citizens.

Let's put it this way: if a fan group organised a minute's silence for the hunger strikers just before a game every year and some other fans didn't like it and booed it, would it seem reasonable for this group to ask anyone who didn't agree to wait outside until they had finished?

I'm at the stage in life where I genuinely don't give a * about most things, but this whole "poppy season" that comes along once every * year is really infuriating.

In terms of our support - it's cringey as * when you hear folk shouting and/or booing throughout the silence that is demanded on our games.

Don't agree with it? * off outside and don't observe it. Simple.

Obviously that's a bit facetious, but I suggested a more genuine parallel above:

@Mr. Slippyfist I apologise for the facetious one. It wasn't meant to be so clumsy and heavy-handed. I tried to make my point in a funny way, but I'm not very good at that. The post following it is more serious and hopefully more worth your time.

Mind Paddy used to be cool?

Now he’s a poppy sympathiser. Probably drinks IPA and talks with a Glasgow Uni accent anaw.

I don't care about the circumstances.

We have to do everything in our power to get Jota back. Easily doable imo. 2 year loan, pay a percentage of his wages. * the wife beaters, they can afford it.

Oh, wrong thread? Na * that.

Back to football please bhoys and Ghirls. This thread is rank with internet assembled philosophies and half arsed conclusions from people drawing half arsed conclusions from half arsed Google searches.

    So....

    Jota?

I don't think (m)any of us are professional philosophers, sociologists or political scientists, you're probably on the wrong forum for that. Nevertheless, I think many of us are discussing how we see the issue in good faith with what resources, education and understanding we have available. I'd be very happy to try to find you a different forum more suitable for a person of your academic standards.

The silences and poppies are things that affect the fans and that the fans quite evidently don't all agree on. I don't see how that's off topic for this specific thread. Ironically, Jota might be argued to be so, given that he has his own thread all about him.

I hate all the poppy *.

But let's be honest, everycunt and their granny knows that there is gonna be some sort of "disruption" at the games this time a year.

We're just playing right into the hands of these decepticons at each and every opportunity.

The thing about the minute's silence is context. If someone was to go to a memorial service at a cenotaph and boo it, I'd say they were * mental and deserved everything coming their way. But this is a football park. We're here to play football. The board should know better than to foist politically charged memorials onto a support that at best have little interest in observing it. The fans have a right to resist it but I'd say that a respectful banner or something to that effect would be better. It's a bad look to jeer the memorialisation of departed souls however you spin it.
