She did follow that up with "I don't know enough about it to pick a side"
I had to leave for work or I would have argued

what do you think would happen if our board grew a set and said *
you uefa, we are not paying another fine.
this is a human rights issue and we stand by our fans and will fight this
punishment in a court of law.

Nice idea in theory but it be a bit daft to risk getting expelled from the Champions League for 4 days of Broony's wages. :smiley-laughing002:

I think the board have been brilliant with regards to the fans. bending over backwards to accommadate the gb by building them there own section.

They haven't come out and slaughtered them over the demonstration either.. despite media pressure to do so. THIS IS A FOOTBALL CLUB at the end of the day Not a political organisation Some people sitting behind their computer screen forget this sometimes. We have made our point with regards to palastine already and it looks like we will swallow the fine. why is nothing ever enough for some of our fans.

Yeah and you can't blame them for that given the way the issue is framed by the MSM. I'm convinced that's why some people in here were so against the display: they agree with the issue but are well aware of how the mainstream perception of events in that part of the world are heavily skewed and so were worried that we would look bad.

Good post. Many don't seem to realise this and would have the board come out with all sorts of statements.

Anyway as you say they haven't come out and seperated themselves from the display and we move on with just a fine. I was sceptical at first over the impact of the display but delighted it has resulted in this exposure due to the funding. Proud.

Yeah, the board have been quite good this last couple of years, but people are understandably still a bit suspicious after events of a few years ago when Lawwell (and possibly others) tried to get rid of the GB (remember the whole "give them enough rope to hang themselves" stuff and other things he said).

Happily, he seems to have been reined in on that issue (and I say that as an admirer of his work in most other respects).

The silence on the issue from the board is as good as we can really expect. If they came out in support of the fans they'd be opening themselves up to all kinds of issues, so silence is the best option.

I don't really pay much attention to the whole Israel/Palestine thing but the fact that UEFA will fine us for the Palestinian display does lead me to ask one question internally........had we been displaying lots of Israel flags would they have been deemed to be "illicit"?

I suspect the answer is probably no and that to me is a bit off. Israel flag - good. Palestinian flag - bad. I am not comfortable with that, I think it's wrong.

    100% wrong mate, agreed.

Wasn't all that long ago people were up in arms about the tricolour being displayed. Whatever suits agendas.
