Did the Green Brigade not issue a statement in relation to the poppy debate saying they had no objection to a white poppy being displayed on the shirt as this was the original symbol of rememberance for those who died in WW1 & WW2?

It's just the red, blood stained poppy that they (and I) object to.

People can't have it both ways, saying no politics in football and then forcing this on the club.

A poppy doesn't belong on a football shirt in my opinion but what's done is done. The atmosphere they bring to Celtic Park is what gives it the name 'Paradise'. I'm 100% behind the GB. Keep up the good work. :shamrock:

I'm sorry but the whole poppy argument is sad for lots of soldiers served and had nothing to do with the troubles and I'm sure there were lots of soldiers sent to Ireland that didn't agree with it so to tar every soldier with the same brush is wrong and didn't the terrorists kill more people unjustly? The biggest gripe on here seems to be the pro Ira addons and the poppy thing so why can't they be fixed easily ?

    The poppy banners were embarrassing.

I wear a poppy every year but i don't think it should be sewn onto football shirts. It's a personal thing, i think.
I hate all the political things at football. It's cheap.

The only terrorists from what Iv seen were the British soldiers and their loyalist buddies who they aided and armed. Also, Republicans victims was less than 25% innocent while the British army was well over 60% and loyalist was nearly 907%. - Queens university.

So the IRA that left bombs in shopping centers full of innocent people and nail bombed places weren't terrorists?

The difference is that the IRA left warning unlike the bombing in Monaghan and Dublin which were carried out by the Brit army as loyalist thugs didnt have the capability to carry out such an operation. Fair enough innocent people were caught up in Republican operations but you name me a conflict were innocents wernt killed. IRA statistics were actually very good compared to most conflicts

All i'm going to say on the GB is they are the ones who brought the thunder back to Parkhead, not the manager or players or board or anyone else.
At all stages of matches - whether big or boring - they are drumming and singing and creating an atmosphere. There's nothing worse than a silent football stadium, it's so cringeworthy and uncomfortable so it reassures me and i'm guessing everyone else sitting watching a match knowing that even if we're getting beat or if we're winning but there's just a few minutes to go in a boring meaningless match, they will still be there in the corner making noise.

Don't agree with some of their protests, or the ways in which they've done them such as booing during the minute's silence because that just gave the club a very bad reputation in the media and particularly in England and it's an example of a small minded view - thinking everyone in the army is against the Irish state and that bullshit when my granpa for one has been going to Parkhead every match for the last 70 odd years - except for when he was in the war.
Political/religious things should be kept well clear of footy but i'm all for the great atmosphere the GB bring to Parkhead, making it the best football stadium in the UK now easily.
    Long may they continue.
