Discuss Celtic should bid to host the 2027 Champions League final in the Celtic Chat area at TalkCeltic.net.
Milan was stripped of hosting the 2027 Champions League final so why shouldn’t Celtic bid to host it.
Unfortunately I think you need to have direct access to within the stadia for the buses and we don't have that at the moment . I'm sure I read that somewhere m8. That is 1 of the criteria for hosting
Cause our stadium isn't rated 5 star.
Pity.
It would be awesome to have a Champions League final there especially if we were in it
Would be fantastic but I'm sure we are short on some of the criteria required for it.
Don't know what but I'm sure someone here will know
There are no 5 star rated stadiums.
Only 1,2,3 and Elite with only Elite allowed to host Champions League finals
Celtic Park is the highest rank of stadium, which is category 4. Technically, we would be permitted to host the CL final.
However, UEFA have generally stuck with giving European finals to stadia that used to fit the old category 5 criteria. Hampden and Ibrox were category 5 stadia, but Celtic Park was not. Below is the old list of criteria for meeting the category 5 level. Whether we fit it now following upgrades since 2006, I don't know.
Minimum capacity of 50,000 seats.
Each seat has to be an individual seat with backrest, benches would not be considered.
The field should have the size of 105x68m.
Minimum distance between the field and stands of 6m along the sides and 7.5m behind goals.
No perimeter fences around the field (moats allowed).
Top class player and referee changing rooms (identical standard for each team, lit and bright). Each team changing room should have the surface of no less than 100 m2.
Direct, protected and secure access routes for players and referees from the parking lot to the changing rooms and from these facilities onto the field.
Adequate and well-equipped room for doping control.
Analogically for the UEFA delegate.
Floodlights of no less than 1,400 lux for the main camera position and no less than 1,000 lux for other parts of the stadium. Also, backup system of floodlights (or power source) possible to launch at every time and providing the same parameters.
Modern and efficient public address system enabling transfer of information both in the stands, under them and around the stadium (doesn’t cover specific rooms for building users). The sound should be clear and understandable, possible to hear regardless of noise level within the crowd. The system needs to be independent of main power supply in order to operate in case of emergency.
Surveillance system (CCTV) in colour, covering all public areas in the stadium and around it. The system needs to be able to provide clear photos of monitored areas at any time.
Control room with monitors for the above-mentioned system, speaker’s position, video board and information. Police and fire departments should have their representatives within the room or directly next to it. The control room needs to provide direct and unobstructed view of the stands.
Internationally understood signage in all public areas of the stadium and around it.
Minimum of two sections, 50 places each, for the disabled and their companions. These seats have to be covered and have access to well-equipped toilet facilities.
Toilets for fans of both genders should be provided in sufficient number and decent standard. Toilets without toilet seats will not be accepted.
Highest quality of working space for media representatives, including well placed camera positions, TV studios and other rooms for broadcasting needs. Number of spots for various kinds of media representatives can vary depending on game (details can be found in UEFA Guidelines for Media Facilities).
The stadium should offer highest quality of VIP spaces, including a minimum 200 seats within the VIP lounge. Additional hospitality area for 400 people, room to arrange similar spaces for both teams (2x200 seats) and enough room within direct vicinity of the stadium to hold the Champions Village (for CL final), able to hold 4,000 people.

I don’t know the specifics but it’s things like the dressing rooms need to be much bigger etc.
I think you need a larger press area too. We put up tents at the UCL but presumably there would need to be a more permanent solution.
I think whenever we re-do the main stand we can add capacity and add these facilities then we might get it.
you’re right doc, I was going to post this same pointy about team buses, it’s one of the reasons we need to re-develop the south stand

The main stand needs massive redevelopment, the main internal layout hasn't really changed since it was built.. tunnel is too narrow etc..
Wonder if we could do a similar project to Liverpool, where they managed to build a new stand without fully closing it..

Celtic Park is fine the way it is.
Needs a lick of paint on the steel beams (noticed they have done at the front, but done them grey again would have been nicer green or white) and some bird * jet washed off, but other than that she's still a stunner!

Nah, I don't agree, the main stand badly needs modernising.. they away fan experience can be poor due to the restricted view that the beams from the main stand obstruct..
The player facilities and tunnel isn't big enough either and the players need to emerge in single file..
The main building, so the structure was built in 1929 with a new roof in 1971 and the outside facade was rebuilt in 1988.. it badly needs rebuilt and modernised.

I'd agree.
I don't know if it'll be done though. Whatever happened to the hotel?

What's the big beef with the single access/egress tunnel?
You want us to spend hundreds of thousands doing structural upgrades so players can walk out holding hands? :56:

That's just one of the the issues if you want the stadium to be at an elite level..
Have you taken a tour recently? For me it's really evident that we're restricted by the 1929 original design/structure..
It needs pulled down and redone..
Think you missed the sarcasm mate... That's one of the golden nuggets the Huns always threw around about The Crumbledome - it was 5 star, and Parkhead wasn't

I agree. It’s such an obvious place to improve the club.
Better changing rooms badly needed, better bars and hospitality could be added, and it could be funded by increased capacity.
I’m sure there will be big plans drawn up it’s just finding the right time to go ahead. I think if the champions league gets bigger and we can guarantee entry we will go ahead with it.
