That is certainly one way to look at it in terms of numbers but it is trying to monetise that.

I think it could be worth it to spend a bit of money on creating good content and releasing it for free on YouTube for a few years, try and capture some more international fans and then bring back the subscription for CelticTV, with hopefully a lot of new customers.

Might not be instantly financially profitable but it could not be far off if we can increase subscribers/followers on all socials.

I like that idea, it’s the sort of thinking the club could be doing with but we are pretty stale on that front. Everything tends to be pretty conservative and being honest most of our income has only grown marginally along the lines of inflation, except for CL income when we get it.

I looked a while ago and I think only 2 clubs had more money in the bank than us of their last annual accounts and they were Bayern and Barcelona, I think Real Madrid has slightly less like £1-2million then most other big clubs had about £40-60million, Ajax and Benfica were quite low like £10-20million and Liverpool was really low like £5million.

Barcelona, really? I know a few years back they was in financial issues for their player expenditure, but i take it they still had money in the bank (their issues being to do with turnovers and registration, not necessarily because they was just skint as most thought).

Aye, I was surprised at that as well, I think they actually had about £130million as well which was way higher than us and Bayern might have been about £120million.

It could have been just that they did those deals to get a lot more revenue in up front around then so was inflated rather than just normal for them, remember the "levers" stuff where I think they sold off TV rights and whatever for 10-15 year for a lot of money up front.

I think their problem is that they are limited in what they can spend on wages since the covid season and so they needed more revenue to be able to use more wages since, like 20% of their wagebill the now might be wages that were to be paid years ago and yet they still need to pay their normal wages which they aren't allowed to so need to keep increasing revenue to keep paying the wages they need to until they pay off all those old wages they owe, I think they are even still paying Messi even though he left like 2/3 year ago lol

77 million in the bank, upcoming CL campaign and a team full of players who we would easily fetch a good fee for.

If there was ever a time to properly push on a bury those * across the road for good, it's now. The summer window was a decent start, but the next two windows are massive.

It's amazing you say that considering window just closed but many will agree. There will be 4 or 5 of that squad leaving next summer 100% that have been here a few years but the bloatedness of it is nearly all gone.

Yeah pretty much how I understand it as well.

The COVID season * their income in regards the la liga rules on wages.
I don't/wouldn't believe they are still paying Messi though, his contract had ran out and they couldn't resign him because their wages were already above the league limit.

I'm no expert in the la liga rules, I do wonder if they operate on a 5 year FFP sort of thing, or if it's likely as you say, they need the old wages off the bill to get back to living within their means.
The stadium upgrade probably isn't helping either, but was in desperate need to be done and plans far down the line when all the issues arose, so I wonder if they're just accepting that aspect and know that for 10 years they're increasing revenue by selling a lot off, but come the end of it the new stadium and TV rights come back to them in big style, where they may very well have sorted their stupidly large wage bill that they accumulated over the years in paying silly money to Alba, Messi etc.

Anyway, mad tangent for this conversation.

We've got money, we can spend more of it, wisely, to improve our own fortunes.

Mind they told us 15 years ago that running at a debt was better than a profit as you paid less to service the debt than the tax on the profit.

Go figure we've got that much in the bank that it would seemingly be better to hoard cash now.

With the accounts not counting the O'Rielly money and the increase in UCL money etc, I'd honestly be surprised if that money at the bank doesn't break 120 and then 140m within the next 2-3 years. And that's with us spending 30m a season to bring in 3-5 players of real quality as in Engels.

At that time the progress we would make in the UCL would be brilliant for our standing.

But going by the chairman's words, it's unlikely we spend that sort of money regularly.

Being fair even with O’Riley money, we made a net surplus from transfers of about £5-8m over the course of the deals being paid up subject to add ons that figure could be higher but likely realised in future years.

It also looks like the Barrowfield project is being paid over at least last year and this. £7.2m spent on CAPEX but provisions of nearly £7m being in those accounts just released could be putting money aside for paying for some more of that. Then we will probably spend another £7m out of this year’s money to pay up the £20m or so with a small amount held for the usual 12 month defects period.

I agree with JucoJames on the Huddle breakdown in that we have paid off some payables/liabilities that we probably didn’t have to, which may have been to manage the cash position not being even higher. We may have even done deals where we paid more of new signings up front than we normally would have during this summer window.

I suspect we will continue to do the above so that cash position doesn’t reach the £120m+.

The other barrier will be CL qualification, although next year is one qualifier, as things stand for the 26/27 season the champions have 3 or 4 qualifying rounds and fewer teams in Europe from Scotland with only the champions guaranteed European League football.

We could really do with our three representatives this year getting some points on the board to at least get above 2 of Greece, Norway, Israel, Denmark, Switzerland and Austria so we have a similar qualifying path to next season if we win the league next season.

Getting back to the top 10 is going to take a miracle over a few seasons if not longer. So automatic qualification will be off the table for CL for the considerable future.

Come on you Bhoys in Green
I think our aim is to become something similar to the likes of Benfica/Ajax, big European team with pedigree that are just the step below the elite clubs in terms of signings and revenue but can compete at the highest level. I noticed we have spent more than Club Brugge who we thought are just a ahead of us in the European hierarchy atm, their most expensive signings this summer was around the 6 mil mark while ours was 11 mil . So it's really looking positive. I reckon we will see more Engels type signings

The very worst thing we could do is sit on that money.

Would make sense to spend some on players but we should be improving the stadium, training facility’s, scouting network, coaching staff, youth facilities ect. We need to be forward thinking and not stand still and Pat ourselves on the back whilst we hoard cash

I just get angry now at these reports.
See if we have over 100m in the bank and the 2 signings for LB and CB are no better than Taylor and Scales it’s an absolutely * disgrace. Especially when you look at this years CL group.

Not read the article but maybe they mean this year’s champions league money isn’t included?
