Just looking at our stats in the CL, I always thought we were a clean team who didn't committ many fouls or that but didn't realise how clean we were.

In the CL this season we have done the 4th most tackles and 3rd most interceptions and yet we have committed the 2nd least fouls, we are also the 2nd least carded team. Only Roma have done less fouls than us and had less cards but we've done 44 more tackles and interceptions than them.

We are also the worst team in the air averaging only 6 headers per match.

Points to a lack of aggression which in both the PSG and Bayern away games is a reasonable accusation to throw at us.

Sviatchenko in most of the top 5's from last years CL. If only he could get back to that level.

The main noticable thing with our CL stats is that we are woeful in the air. We won the least headers in the CL, only 5.8 per game. 7 per game less than Anderlecht and 15 a game less than Monaco, we attempted the 2nd least crosses only Qarabag attempted less.

We also were too clean probably, only Chelsea got less cards and only Roma done less fouls than us however we did do the 2nd most interceptions and 6th most tackles so it's not really that we weren't getting into teams we were just barely ever fouling anybody.

Our passing accuracy was very good, 12th best, most of our passes were short passes, we ranked I think 2nd lowest for long balls, our play was mostly in the middle of the park and spread even between the left and right of the pitch only we averaged twice as many shots from the left than the right.

There is no chance that Lustig is really the second best by ratings this season. Whoscored is not very objective these days.

They don't actually vote or anything player ratings. It's all coded into the stats, so totally dependant on the analysis of what a player done on the park, their running, crossing, tackling, headering, passing, shooting, crossing wether they were dribbled past, lost a tackle, gave the ball away, made a mistake that led to a goal.

So not like someone sat and went "he was an 8, he was a 5" it's all mathematically sorted by stats. As is their wee descriptions, so like Dembele has:

    Moussa Dembele Characteristics
    + Strengths
    Key passes - Strong
    Dribbling - Strong
    Finishing - Strong
    - Weaknesses
Holding on to the ball - Weak
    Moussa Dembele's Style of Play
    • Likes to do layoffs
    • Likes to dribble
    • Indirect set-piece threat
    • Likes to play short passes
    • Does not dive into tackles
Nobody has actually wrote them in, they just show up based on his stats. So if a lot of his passes lead to shots it it'll say key passes strong, if he successfully beats people on most of his dribbling attempts it'll say strong, if he scores a large % of his shots finishing strong, if he loses the ball quickly a lot he will get weak holding the ball = probably because he tries to turn players all the time when recieving possession and loses it a lot.

Does not dive into tackles probably shows he chases the player on the ball a lot and tries to block them rather than trying to tackle them. Indirect set peice threat shows that he gets on the end of a good number of crosses from set peices.

    Scott Sinclair - 17 goals - 9 assists = * season.
James Forrest - 13 goals - 3 assists = player of the season contender.

People are always judged on their best season though, even if Sinclair is actually playing the exact same this season he'll just seem worse since he never got better. It's always been the case for all players where as Forrest is having his best ever season so in comparison to Sinclair people think he's been better when he's probably not it just seems like he has.

Sinclair's stats are very similar to last season.

This Season: 36 Games 17 Goals 9 Assists
Last season after 36 Games 17 Goals 6 Assists

Could say the same of McGregor, he's probably been better this season than he was last season but because last season was more of a breakthrough season it doesn't feel like it.

So Sinclair is actually having a better season than last year in terms of his key contributions to the team. Interesting, because there's definitely been a lot of struggles for him this season, which has a lot to do with teams doubling and tripling up on him at times.

I think after Rodger's first season, this season was inevitably going to be a bit more of an anti-climax.
