Kris Commons - 41 games, 27 goals and 8 assists this season playing as a second striker, attacking mid, left midfielder and right midfielder.

It can be done, if good enough and able to adapt.

Not all players are able to adapt.

Was Sutton better than Henke because he could play a number of positions?

Important and clearly over-looked piece of info.

    Thanks. :50:

No of course not, Henke could also play anywhere along a forward line or even an attacking role in midfield though.

All good players should be adaptable.

Henke was depressed at Feyenoord because they played him wide right.

Feyenoord fans must want to crucify whoever was coach at the time.

Stokes can also play the AM role and has excelled at LM in the past, most notably in the SC final.

He is not, however, a lone striker. He isn't super strong or particularly good in the air. He plays off that kind of player, he feeds off him. That kind of player makes Anthony Stokes tick and so it has been proved with the arrival of Griffiths.

For a long patch of this season Stokes wasn't good enough, it was theough being played in the wrong position but even where he was playing his movement off the ball and dragging about of defenders gave Commons room to move into, which resulted in a lot of Commons goals. Similar to Commons goal last night, Stokes drags the other centre back to the left and Samaras commits the other one leaving Commons open in the box.

A lot of our goals this year have come from similar sort of play. He's now being played in the right position, he had 7 goals in 9 when partnered with a striker up top, he's set up more and his tail is up. A lot of players can adapt to different positions, a lot of players just aren't suited for a different position.

You play to the strengths of the team, as we have been all season and why Stokes has been pulled back to his usual position as soon as a more natural centre forward came in.

It's interesting how much fuss of Stokes being high in assists and goals is made of, when Samaras is sitting 3rd top goalscorer and 4th top assister for us but has been widely deemed 'uninterested' or 'lazy' this season.

That's because you tend to judge players on stats alone rather than there all round play.

For large parts of the season Sammy has been uninterested and lazy, he started the season on fire though and he's perked up in the last month or so.

It's infact the opposite this time though? LOADS of other people go on about Stokes stats and how he's always there or thereabouts in goals or assists...

Another reason why Stokes gets defended more is down to his workrate. Something which you can't find out by looking at stats.

No, it's really not. Not when you look at what people are actually saying, stats are used to accentuate points, not the full point itself. Stokes workrate and general play have been highlighted generally, with his creativity been pointed out. Stats never tell the whole story.

Not that I'm saying you're stats are wrong, but Transfermarkt has Samaras with 12 assists this season?

9 in Scottish Premiership: Aberdeen away (1), Kilmarnock away (1), Aberdeen home (1), Hearts home (1), Inverness away (1), St.Mirren away (1), Partick Thistle away (2), Motherwell away (1).

2 in Europe: Karagandy home (1), Ajax home (1).

1 in Scottish Cup: Aberdeen home (1).

LoveTheTic88 seems to be TC's resident stats nut these days...... ILTC has really fallen down in that regard.

A note on the stats, Commons involved in 39 goals this season (28 scored/11 assisted) is * sensational. Also good to see Izzy keeping up with the assists too.
