Is that 4 in 4 with 2 assists for Griffiths?

You should take into consideration the playing time when making this sort of comparisons. I bet Griffiths already has a few times the amount of minutes Balde got so it's not really fair to compare these two.

Apparently I was wrong, Balde played almost the same amount. But their stats are not that different. I checked Soccerway:

Balde played in 17 games for a total of 292 minutes and scored 3 goals. That's one goals every 97,3 minutes.
Griffiths played in 4 games for a total of 325 minutes and scored 4 goals. One goal every 81,25 minutes.

Pukki: 1028 minutes, 5 goals. One goal every 205,6 minutes. Wow, that really sucks.

    Stokes: 1896 minutes, 10 goals. A goal every 189,6 minutes. Also * as *.

Stokes has 11 for the season.

If you take it for Stokes, goals and assist he either scores or sets up a goal every 94.8 minutes

    Pukki would be 146.86

Pukki really has been disappointing. Not sure if he'll be able to stake his place in the team next season with Griffiths, Stokes, Balde, Watt and possibly another striker coming in.

Pukki's probably the most likely to leave.

Griffiths really has 5 goals too, was it his debut he scored in and it was given offside but he was onside?

In total Griffiths has played 70 Scottish Premier games and has 34 goals and 19 assists. Not a bad record considering it's between the ages of 20-23 and the first time he played in the SPL it was the highest level he'd played at.

In total in Scottish football his record is:

    197 Games
101 Goals (goal every 152 minutes)
51 Assists (assist ever 302 minutes)

    In English Football

    30 Games
13 Goals (goal every 138 minutes)
3 Assists (assist every 599 minutes)

For Scotland U21s he averaged a goal every 96 minutes, 3 goals in 11 appearances.

Why is it that people can't stop talking about the number of assists that Stokes made? Is it because he doesn't score enough goals to be considered a good enough striker? Because we never had this before, no one ever said "Scott McDonald scored 31 goals and made 12" assists in 07/08 or that "Hooper last year scored 31 times and also provided 10 assists". This only happens with Stokes, every time someone says he's not scoring enough goals there comes the assists argument. Guess what, some Celtic strikers had as much assists as Stokes or more but they also scored more goals so no one ever felt the need to include the number of assist in the argument to justify their place in the squad.

It happened with Hooper and McDonalf as well. People highlight it with Stokes because it's such a big part of his game.

What Celtic strikers set up more than him by the way?

He does assist a lot of goals though. In the Last 9 seasons the 2 most assists in a season were Stokes, 16 one season and 13 another season. The next best is 12 by McDonald but Stokes still made 9 assists last season even though he only played 23 games had he not have got injured he'd have made the 1st, 2nd and 3rd most assists from forwards and he has 9 this season, so would currently only need 4 more to be joint 4th best too.

47 assists in 142 games is a great record for a forward. As mind thats actual assists, he is setting up lots of chances.

Assists are included because they are a massive part of football. To only take goals into consideration would be doing a lot of players a disservice.

No offence, but I think this is mostly due to the fact that he doesn't score as many goals as people would expect from a forward/like to see from him. I know assists are an important part of the game (still not as important as scoring goals, though, especially for a forward) but his assists have been mentioned so many times on this board and in so many contexts that it's starting to sound like an inside joke. "Stokes hasn't been good today he should be substituted." "Yeah, but you mustn't forget he's got X assists this season and Y since joining Celtic!" :56:

Assists are very important and he has games like he did, say the cup final last year where he destroyed the defence and set up two goals without scoring himself theres no way he should be criticised for not scoring.

It's also a big part of the reason he hasn't got more goals, if he was that bit greedier infront of goals he would. Take the weekend for example, his pass back to Griffith's for what should have been his hat-trick, he gave him it because he was in a better position deapite being in the position to score himself.

He's a player who creates for the team, as all of our strikers should now be. Gary Hoopers assist record got brought up constantly as well, as him and Stokes were two of the most creative players in the team.

A strikers job isn't to get assists LOL!!!

A strikers job is to score goals, hence why "Strike" is in the name. We have wingers and midfielders, such as Commons and Forrest. Yet because Stokes hasn't scored much Commons has to come up with the goods.

Assists don't count to strikers :smiley-laughing002::smiley-laughing002::smiley-laughing002:

A strikers job is to help the team win games. That's the reason why players like Mario Gomez gets sold despite coming off the back of a 40 goal season.
