The Queen is the head of the Commonwealth so having her not open the games is unthinkable. Ok she is going to be at Celtic Park and the National Anthem will be played (probably) and every time England win a Gold. The Queen is also defender of the faith (Protestant) and this is used as an Anti Catholic slap in the teeth by certain bigots in this here isle. The Queen is a powerless figurehead whose main job is to entertain foreign dignitaries, open the occasional buildings and games, launch a ship and give out worthless gongs for roadsweepers who kept their original brush for 20 years. Blaming the current Monarchy for things that have gone awry in the past is senseless, look to the politicians. What the heck has the Queen got to do with the murdererous scum in 1 para and the IRA/UDA etc. She is a harmless OAP who stands as a figurehead for something I don't particularly agree with as a sociaist but hardly worth getting upset about when it's about being at a stadium and declaring a fun event open.

If you examine each participating nation you will find, to varying degrees, that instances of atrocities and injustices have been inflicted on them all in the name of colonialism.
