Or we could've signed Gary Hooper, on loan or otherwise. And for all the dross we've signed, we could've just spent a little more and brought in someone of quality.

I think it's clear that the striker position isn't one we can play moneyball in and thus we need to alter our transfer policy a bit for this position. Good strikers are generally the most expensive position to shop for in smaller leagues; and scoring 20+ goals in Scotland and a handful of goals in Europe means * all to cash-rich leagues and won't increase the value by much and thus it's hard to buy and sell for profit in this position.

We only got £4M or £5M or so for Hooper, who's arguably the best striker we've seen up here in Scotland since Larsson. Rangers got a similar fee for Jelavic who was another top SPL striker at around the same time. Strikers leaving other clubs like Dundee United (Goodwillie, Russell et al.) often go for peanuts even in comparison to this even if they do bang in 20+ a season where the league is more competitive (sides below Celtic are more evenly balanced quality-wise; incidentally however, strikers such as these are the only ones we can realistically look to profit on save for gambling and signing from poorer leagues where you run the risk of getting a Bangura, which is less likely when the player is already adapted to the league).

I'm coming to the conclusion that with strikers, although you could maybe * £5M and make a loss on that player, you could argue that having one quality striker could increase the value of other players around them (strike partners, attacking mids) and balance the loss out a little bit.

PR spun bullshit in Deila quotation marks.

For any of his failings I have never disagreed with what he's said publically. That though? Bullshit. You can't fool us I'm afraid, the guy isn't stupid and if he truelly does believe we have enough striking depth we are *.

I'm going to start a save with us on FM once people do the transfer updates, and have a go at signing every striker under the sun.

He said yesterday he is a left back, but has recently been playing at centre back and is comfortable in both positions.

I'm hoping we use him at left back tbh.

Chelsea signs Djilobodji for close to £3M and Celtic signs Jozo for £4-5M? This pretty much sums up the club at the moment, * clueless. From the board right through to management and coaching staff there needs to be drastic changes. In the absence of a competitive Rangers team its hard year on year to evaluate Celtic's progression as no other team comes close in the SPL, to do that. You can't sing Deila's praises for winning a league that is yours to throw away, the only way you can gauge progression is in Europe, playing a better standard of teams. So far in my opinion, Deila isn't that great. Been knocked out the champions league three times by teams we should have beaten. Scraped through the group stages in an unimpressive manner in the Europa league and to be fair had a few good games against an Inter side that were struggling at the time.

This window is just an illustration of how Celtic are continuing to get weaker and weaker year on year.
