He's a decent player, and would improve Rangers, but I don't think he's Celtic class! Not for me, thanks.

He does have a point though, we overrate our scottish players massively hoping that just once we would produce a world class player, because in recent years there have been many hypes but no real evidence of top scottish players, very sad.

Although as much as I hate the *, you can't really say Kenny miller didn't become good... Fair enough it was only for like 2 seasons.p at the shame but he still got like 20 goals in half a season. He is * now though.

Firstly, what a horribly cynical attitude.

Secondly you have just targetted the underachievers to emphasise your point. Though saying kenny miller didnt get that good is a bit unfair, he scored against Italy and germany to mention a couple and one of the best individual performances I've ever seen by a celtic player was him against Benfica in the champions league.

Anyway point im making is, NO one got excited about the majority of the players you mentioned. Craig Gordon, Alan Hutton and James McFadden. These guys got our attention and have gone onto better things and can arguably get even better.

I've been watching Goodwillie closely for the last 2 seasons and at his age he is already more technically gifted than ANY other Scottish striker. If he goes to a good team his potential may shine through which I think neither Celtic or Rangers will be able to provide. If he doesnt do anything stupid again i can see him in the premiership in the next couple years which can only be good for Scotland.

Is that all you took from that?
I was talking solely about Scottish talent, not irish. I love stokes and would have him in my starting 11 every game - ahead of Goodwillie if we signed him. Simply because he fits into our team better. But i genuinely think Goodwillie has what it takes to go to the top. Could probably say the same about Hooper and stokes too, id prefer they stayed with us though.

have to agree with Born green one this one. infact i can see a lot of similarities between Stokes whilst at Hibs and Goodwillie. i think if he moves to a bigger club, he'll only get better.

i would like him for his talent. however, his baggage compromises it.

Agree. Good post. What about Steven Fletcher as well? Charlie Adam? Snodgrass? Barry Ferguson? Fletcher?

Goodwillie will never become Premiership level. See this potential you speak of what do you think he will get better at, what aspects of his game can be improved? at this moment he is a poor mans Scott McDonald, he'd need to surpass like McDonalds level, then Chopra/Earnshaws level then Andy Johnsons level and then Gary Hoopers level before he could even be classed as good enough for a bottom end Premiership team. Absolutley no danger of ever getting there.

I can only see what I see, id stick Goodwillie in the Templeton, James McArthur, Stephen Pearson Kirk Broadfoot category.

Potential is when a player has the raw ingredients and just needs the other parts of his game brought up to the same level. Goodwillie id say is more of a workrate player, technically average but high workrate, high stamina and runs all day. Theres no room for improvement there, hes not going to get faster, hes hardly going to get fitter, not going to get much stronger.

People say potential too much when talking about younger players was my point. Not all young players have potential.

STV Sport understands that Dundee United have rejected a bid from an unnamed English side for striker David Goodwillie.

The bid - believed to be in the region of £1.6 million - did not meet United's valuation of the 22-year old forward

Hope so too mate :50: Because if Murphy and Samaras are the answer, then I don't know what the question is. :56:

We badly need a backup striker because Samaras and Murphy are terrible. Goodwillie would be perfect... hardworking and knows where the net is. £2m is a good price. I rate him higher than Motherwell's Murphy as well.
